Player Written Contracts

Post by halitosisman » #507929

If a character signs a player written contract that lists their life as collateral, do they become valid upon breaking the contract?

If they willingly sign, its all roleplay after that.

Would I ban someone who says "kill me" then ahelps when they get killed? Yes. Would I ban the person killing them? No.

If you consent to forfeit your life on a condition, and that condition is met, you don't get to make take-backs. You shouldn't have consented in the first place.

from an IC standpoint the contract would be invalid since you have already sold your life and soul to nanotrasen as evidenced by the contracts found in the lawyer's office roundstart
to enforce it you would need a captain or head of security that declares your killer a murderer and clones you
from an OOC standpoint any response at all would be silly banbot behaviour

The contract consigns your soul to Nanotrasen, but death is an ailment of the body. EDIT: Does the Nanotrasen contract specifically list one's life? I can't remember.

Also, what if the clause mentioning the death penalty is cunningly laid in the fine print.

Then that's your fault for not reading it?

I mean we've gone from it being used as collateral for something to what if it's in the fine print, what exactly are you looking for here? I didn't even know people MADE contracts.

yeah I'll be honest I'm a little surprised to even hear of this.

I'd probably be shitting myself with anticipation if peoplemwalked up to me when I'm lawyer asking me to write/interpret a player contract.

If people are going to go so far as to sign their life away on a contract in this game, that sounds like an amazing roleplaying moment that I would want to encourage more of not less of. Technically your soul is already entitled to Nanotrasen to begin with, but as Cobby stated: If you say you're willing to die/be killed, then you are killed that's on you for consenting to that in the first place.
