Referencing emojis in game

I don't think people should randomly say "crab" or "flushed" in game

Re: Referencing emojis in game

I think the bigger issue is chat speak/intentional misspelling. If someone is typing acronyms like lmao or using bad spelling that would sound the same as the correct spelling, these are moments that can be pretty jarring.

It's kind of hard to separate out memelord behavior from IC nerds. Spam is always annoying so if someone is spamming something like "bruh" or "dab" or "crab dance" then yeah it's going to degrade the round, but to police something like this I feel like we're starting to enter the kind of HRP space of getting bwoinked for saying IC things about stuff that've been gone for hundreds of years. It becomes a really weird lore fight over what's reasonable to know and then we're pushing even further into HRP territory as then guidelines over what you can know IC are getting established.

Also I'm clearly biased towards "referencing emojis in game" as allowable behavior.

your spaceman saying the word "flushed" out loud should definitely count as netspeak just like "lol" or "lmao" would

that emojis exist is not somehow forbidden knowledge, if anything having to put up with design-by-committee pictographs is very cyberpunk

it's something that's been bwoinked for for years and is not "HRP"

maybe a weird opinion but i think this falls more under cultural reference than it does netspeak
theyre saying a word that refers to netspeak rather than actually saying emojis out loud. it's the difference between "Lauser McMauligan says, "Smile!"" and "Lauser McMauligan says, ":)""
the latter in the above example is clearly worse than the former, and the former imo is just good enough to not be banned. would be hard to moderate either way
i play Lauser McMauligan. clown name is Cold-Ass Honkey
i have three other top secret characters as well.

I think Manuel is making people pay closer attention to their rounds as well as questioning what they think is acceptable behavior.

while I agree, I still think that the way emotes have always been treated is good enough for manuel (unless something has changed and I'm unaware)

To qualify as netspeak something should be not pronounceable like :) :( :\ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and numbers for letters.

Saying flushed, may sound stupid, but it is just not terrible enough to be acceptable in the context of wacky death trap space station.

If you're using it to convey meaningful information in a shorthand way, it's fine. Head of Personnel is a big-ass mouthful and PITA to type in an emergency. Don't try to tell me that saying OMG or LOL is a method of conveying meaningful information quickly, especially in an emergency.

If you can find a situation where saying LOL was a situation of time-sensitive vital importance, I will send nudes to one person of your choice.

time-sensitivity is not something that seems to be taken into account since a player was banned for saying "KoS" in a situation of a dangerous criminal
the only safe bet is abbreviations of in-game terms
