Admin Music Request Thread

Post by Silavite » #76925

Since the old thread got destroyed in the Great Hackering™, I've decided to make a new one. This thread is for posting .ogg or midi files for admins to play in game.
Music must be in .ogg or .midi format. Size limit is 1mb.

~Helpful Programs/Websites~
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - Audacity is free sound editing software.
http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ - Converts youtube videos to MP3 files with the video URL.
http://www.converterlite.com/ - Sound file converter. Not terribly efficient, but it's nonetheless useful for getting a file smaller at the cost of a little quality.
*If anyone has other sites/programs to suggest, don't hesitate to post them here

From the admin thread about midi/ogg courtesy of stickymaymay

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED FOREVER

>Pick MP3
>Put in Audacity
>Change to mono
>Lower bitrate to 22050
>Split song into 1:20 chunks using the type in selection bar at the bottom to avoid slips
>Export each selection and number them
>Queue each chunk
>A full, very acceptable quality song will play seamlessly.
We can now play proper songs.
It has happened.

Applies only to admins or people that can upload sounds via Play Global Sound. If you can't get a singular file below 1mb it doesn't need to be played, it's been discussed in adminbus. 1mb isn't much, but spread across 70 people it's a lot and creates lag.

BYOND also supports a number of module-based file formats, which can be (not necessarily are) quite small while still providing decent music. I think that it works similar to MIDI, but instead of using whatever instruments the listener's OS provides, each file contains the audio samples it uses. Especially with .oxm (xm with ogg-compressed samples), they likely hit a nice middle ground between MIDI and ogg, with far better quality potential than midi, but smaller file sizes than ogg.

I packaged fluidsynth up with two soundfonts (bikehorn and another smaller one) quite a while ago and thought I'd share it here. There's two batch files inside, drag & drop a midi onto them to convert it to an ogg. (The ogg will be in the output folder.) There's a text file in the soundfonts folder listing some other ones that I've tried but omitted due to size and there's some comments in the batch files that explain things that you can change.
