Hi, this is gonna be quick. Isn't it kind of hypocritical that we ban people for netspeak because it breaks immersion, yet the game forces people to break that immersion anyway? It kind of ruins any legitimacy the netspeak rule has.

Maybe it's just me but I always thought pretty much all of the lines in the brain damage list were obnoxious even before they broke server rules, it'd be better if it was just replaced with a "john spaceman gibbers" emote or something
Like, nobody is actually going to even pretend to think you mean anything it makes you say

It's funny and helps other have fun and enjoy the game. I don't understand why so many people who play SS13 and claim to love the atmosphere of the game are so strongly against silly additions to the game. Is it impossible to RP in an environment that isn't dead-serious and boring? Why is it so bad to play as a man driven to the brink by the insane space world he lives in, where every time he goes to work he's attacked by shapeshifters and terrorists? An environment like that does not produce well-adjusted and fully rational people, and it is a farce that we expect the game to conform to that.

You've made some weird assumptions about my motives here. If I had something against silliness I'd be railing for the removal of wizard mode, not something so trivial as the brain damage speech lines.

I'm quite happy to have effects that drive people insane, I'd just rather they didn't make someone spout memes. There's far more creative things you can do with a brain damage effect than have them read off a list of tired one line jokes that don't even make you laugh the first time you read them.

As the chief proponent of these idiotic OOC in IC bans, you really should have an actual reason. If there's an actual reason netspeak shouldn't be allowed in game, then the code should also not force people to say netspeak in game.

In short, it comes down to this:
Is netspeak something that should be in SS13?
Yes: Then stop banning people for it.
No: Then take out the code that makes people do it.
