Sending certain links via PDA?

Unread postby AnActualDog » Wed Jun 13, 2018 1:38 pm #417851

Hey lads, got a question.
I know it's not allowed ingame to share links through comms and talking to people. What about sending them via PDA though?
Especially when it comes to content specifically created for the game (like the wiki or certain guides) I think it would make sense IC-wise that people would share certain info through the good old "space internet".

I ask because I want to step up my botany game when I play again and for that I'd be helpful to send people a menu of the crazy stuff botany can make: https://pastebin.com/b1rarSHs.

Botany can support almost every department in some gamechanging way but, in my experience, people just don't know that. Plus I doubt that list would fit on a note I can just hand out ingame and almost noone would ever pays attention to notes on their desks anyway. So I just want to know if that would be allowed, would be great to increase job interaction and make peoples lifes easier in general.
Though of course it would also be nice for new players if others would be allowed to send wiki-links to them directly.

I've never seen anyone get dinged for this and I don't plan to start anytime soon.
Feedback pls (Don't bother though, because I am perfect)

You're not supposed to link random youtube videos or cat memes or whatever but linking game-related help pages is fine from what I understand.

I guarantee you, 90% of the players have never even read a book ingame. Or just picked up the guidebook in their office, took one look at it, thought "TL;DR" and threw it back into its corner again.

In all seriousness though, I am aware that there are such alternatives, it's just that I'd rather not have to litter my menu all over the station every shift. The PDA approach seems most convenient and it doesn't hurt anybody.

I think the big distinction was a medium being text or "voice".

My headcanon is that messages via pda is the same as texting so netspeak, smileys, and links to the “NTNet” (wiki) are perfectly fine.

And then, when the 2nd gentleman drove off he shouted out of his car window "You missed a tinted rock" and I was like "You know what, you're a true fan" so I shot his tires out and left him to bleed out on the sidewalk. Ask me about Physics? I got nothing. Ask me about Chemistry? I got very little. Ask me about what kind of item would I take here on a bossrush - and I got a LOT of interesting theories. Yo, that's a conceptual problem, man! What's wrong implicitly with eatin' a leaf? Nothin'! You're eating, like, the flesh of another creature! If anything, I think there's more of a conceptual problem with that from like, a grossness standpoint. C'mon dawg, you're driving a two ton hunk of metal, you know what's cool? Letting other people know that you respect them! Listen, fucking Tyrone! I'm here as an embassador of the people - and you are FUCKING it up with this incredibly minor but still illogical problem, ok!? And you know what, Tyrone? I don't think we're gonna take it anymore. It's like meeting someone and thinking they're very stupid, and then you go back in time and look at their report cards from like fourth grade and you're like Yknow, this person's actua-there was a time where this person had some potential, what happened? That's probably what you're saying about me.

Anything ingame related links is fine (i.e. basically only the wiki.) Just don't act like it's [current year].
