Examining abductor gland thingies

Wiki says that an abductor scientist can scan a gland to learn its true name. But poking a gland with a tool on scanning mode seems to do nothing. How do I do this

Inspect it.

Tells you its unique description that matches the wiki one so you know which one does what.

Just normal examine, shift click the gland.
