As someone who has played a ton of medical, the current way you fix people is decent but it does get boring and feels too simple. I have had this idea for a while of how great it would be to have a minigame similar to the game Surgeon Simulator but simpler. You would start a surgery with drapes like you normally would, and a TGUI window would pop up just like how you would interact with an arcade. There would be unique surgeries for each kind of surgery, and the steps would be the same as it is now but you use the tools with your mouse and hold click + move depending on the step. Maybe by clicking the person with the tool that is required in hand would update the window or something and then you proceed with the step, such as moving your mouse down someone's chest and holding click while holding the scalpel to make an incision (pretty much like Surgeon Simulator).
Another feature could be where if you mess up the step, you injuring the person more. And if someone moves you while you are in surgery, you have a chance to mess up or hit the person that bumped into you. This would entice players to use private operating rooms more often so they are not disturbed while doing surgery or in surgery. A more complicated surgery system with a higher skill cap would in my opinion, make fixing players more rewarding. It would also give antagonists more time to complete their objectives as their targets would have to spend slightly more time getting fixed up unless the person in medical is really good at their job.
I know there are a lot of issues with this idea and the implementation would probably be very difficult. I still think we need something to make medical more skill based and rewarding as the current meta for medical players usually ends up just building your own medical bay by rearranging things and then wait for people to come in. And then you just grab x tool with x surgery and repeat till the patient is fixed. If anyone has any interesting ideas to add onto this or how it could be implemented better or just a different idea altogether, feel free to say so. I'm interested in hearing what people have to say about the current meta of medical gameplay and how it could be changed.

Re: Surgery Overhaul / Minigame
I would prefer "steps" as we know it be removed entirely and instead you just have a surgery bag (with a ghetto version being available for crafting/disassembling).
I havent played many medical minigame-esque games for the frame of reference so you'd have to explain it better, but my ideal state would be
1. Scalable difficulty/time
Should be simulating previous surgery timers.
2. VERY IMPORTANT - patients should be able to help to make it easier/more effective.
I want people to play the game and watching a doctor do a timer on you is equally not fun for the patient. Them having agency over the activity by the way of providing an optional boost (if you wanna afk or, more likely, the person is away or youre working on a cata) seems very fun even if it may not be very immersive.

Re: Surgery Overhaul / Minigame
I would hazard against simplifying the surgery equipment to a single item. My reasoning, though entirely sound, is not communicable via the forum reply format at this time.

Re: Surgery Overhaul / Minigame
If its a minigame it would be incredibly silly to ask people to not only focus on the minigame but have to slot in different items. We could retain the tools and make the surgeon kit, be it the medical variant or the ghetto variant, craftable if the concern is things like sawing -people- shotguns or somethign

Re: Surgery Overhaul / Minigame
The trick with surgery is you have to do it for multiple people consistently and even with a full medbay team depending on what is happening there could be a queue of bodies to work on to get players back into the game.
I'm sceptical of this personally.

Re: Surgery Overhaul / Minigame
Im ok with the activity lasting longer at the start (aka you dont know what ur doing in the minigame) if the actual activity is more palpable for both parties.
