The Boiler

Defender Boiler Information

The Boiler is a combat caste and is capable of engaging at a range longer than any other caste using their bombard ability.

As a Boiler you are extremely weak in close quarters so being aware of your position and the position of the marines at all times is extremely important. If you are caught out of position smart use of your acid spray ability will be crucial in escaping with your life!

Playing the Boiler

As the boiler you are capable of launching clouds of gas at extremely long ranges using your bombard ability. This gas can be toggled between knockout gas and corrosive acid. To facilitate aiming at long range you have long ranged sight which can be toggled on and off at the cost of 20 plasma. As the boiler your mobility is extremely limited, your move speed is low, bombarding requires a few seconds stationary before you can fire, and long ranged sight has a charge time. Before you commit yourself to firing make sure your position in secure and you are not at risk of being flanked or attacked. Once you fire off a bombard you will need time to recharge, if your position is safe enough you can simply hold your position and wait for the ability to become available again, otherwise consider taking cover while you wait.

In addition to your long ranged abilities you have one of the strongest corrosive acids available, melting through walls and other barriers can be significantly faster if you are able to use your acid instead of a weaker castes.

Finally you have a strong acid spit that can be used to help cut off the escape of marines or your own retreat if you are caught off guard.

Defender tips & tricks

  • As the long ranged caste Sniper Rifles and scoped rifles are your natural counter, if sniper fire is life difficult off ask for a Defender to use their Fortify ability in a position where you can set up directly behind them.
  • Your natural x-ray vision is extended when you use your long ranged sight, this is extremely useful in areas with lots of obstruction like Prison Station and the marine ship. If your not doing anything else consider looking in all four directions with your vision to check for any flanks or weak positions.
  • Your acid spit has longer reach in your long ranged vision if you aim farther out.

Boiler evolutions & upgrades
