Food makes a lot of sense as a limit to how long you can be in private, secure areas with no interaction with other people. Karma systems have been discussed before (and perhaps even implemented at some point?) but it's mostly considered a failure, granted these systems were based off players doling out karma to each other rather than an automated input.
