Re: Some mechanics stand in opposition to roleplay
I suppose what I am trying to say concisely, is that coder's balancing things by adding knowledge checks, and specifically knowledge checks that often don't make sense for the in game character to understand, is bad for the verisimilitude of the game. The only way to avoid this as a player is to for...

Some mechanics stand in opposition to roleplay
Good roleplay is all about creating a dramatic and believable character with internal consistency, and thereby enhancing the story and setting that takes place throughout the game. Characters are allowed to know about all in game mechanics and antagonists as per rule two. This rule leads to some odd...

Don’t get it twisted. Everything you say in this thread is true, and at least one of the headcoders is in staunch agreement with you.
The example with security you gave is bwoinkable. Thats definitely not alowed.
I play AI very coldly and callously, and I think its fun and dramatic.

Current headmins are pushing enforcement towards, "what would be a sane response IRL?" and IRL the sane response is to be nice and accepting, to de-escalate conflicts and avoid hostility at all costs. This is what most people do. Issue is that on a game like spaceman this mentality sucks ...

I think what really makes the best captain is having heads of staff who turn to the captain for guidance and orders. The captain’s entire job can be summed up as “the ultimate authority,” In some ways this makes the captain the most RP heavy job of them all.

I'm not asking, "Hrm, should I talk to someone about interesting things or not interesting things?" I'm saying there isn't all that much interesting to talk about on a space station where nothing goes wrong.
