Cryosting is OP
It will kill you unless you have a way to warm up, it even gets you fairly cold through most spaceworthy suits, it could do with a duration nerf at the very least.
The most excessive signature on /tg/station13.
Still not even at the limit after 8 fucking years.
The evil holoparasite user I can't believe its not DIO and his holoparasite I can't believe its not Skub have been defeated by the Spacedust Crusaders, but what has been taken from the station can never be returned.
OOC: TheGel: Literally a guy in a suit with a shuttle full of xenos. That's a doozy

no its fine, it takes ages to work and is hard countered by coffee. Lings got to have SOMETHING thats worth spending dna points on.callanrockslol wrote:It will kill you unless you have a way to warm up, it even gets you fairly cold through most spaceworthy suits, it could do with a duration nerf at the very least.

It makes you cold inside the suit it is sting after all. So a fully insulated space suit in space is the absolute worst thing to be stung in.

Re: Cryosting is OP
The only annoying aspect of Cyrosting is that I effectively have to hook up a supply of coffee to my veins forever.
That or stand under a hot shower.
The only time Cyrosting is a big problem is if your trying to kill a Ling and then they stab you, then you have to hope you have help or can get to a coffee machine in time or else your in big trouble.

Re: Cryosting is OP
I did some testing with this, and confirmed that body temperature drops almost three times as fast on a spacesuited human than it does a naked human mob. The damage seemed to occur twice as fast on the space suit wearer than it did the naked one. In the end, both were eventually critted. To that end, failing to treat a cryo-sting will kill you. So, if you ARE hit with cryo-sting, remove your space suit and seek coffee or another heat source as soon as possible.

Tested and it does nothing.
But I found that Robust Coffee seems to stop the Cyrosting, or at least stop it for a long time.
E: Stop it in that one cup will stop the effects.

Re: Cryosting is OP
Ok it seems the Showers don't work.
You have to wrench them to make them hot, which stops the cold effect, but if you stand underneath a hot shower you start to die from the heat. If you step out you start to die from the, now in its advance stage, Cyro Sting.
So Coffee is your only respite.

Cryosting means sacrificing another critical ling ability.
It's fine for 2 points, it's countered by a damn vending machine.

i sort of feel like it probably shouldnt be a crit on an unclothed human unless you ingest a specific reagent.

I feel not every abillity ling's have should be completely useless. Cryo is extreme situational as it is, it takes shitloads of time before someone goes down.Miauw wrote:i sort of feel like it probably shouldnt be a crit on an unclothed human unless you ingest a specific reagent.

Re: Cryosting is OP
I mean you can also just use a medkit or try to get to medbay and get burn meds and antitoxin to purge the frost oil. Coffee may be the hard counter for cryosting, but it's not the only counter

Re: Cryosting is OP
I think it's fine, Cryosting gives a pretty quick warning and gives you more than enough time to yell for help. Changelings should have more than one way to kill people.
Perhaps a few more things should warm you up though... i.e. hot showers, winter jackets, scarves, whiskey, ect. (Though jackets and scarves shouldn't be super effective or people will grab all of them as soon as Changeling is called)

Re: Cryosting is OP
Cryosting is like, the least broken ling power though.
Its duration is pretty obnoxious but its only good for fucking up a single person who can still shout for help.
Hell I had enough time to autorifle two changelings to death last time one got me with this, though I was drinking coffee for the next ten minutes

Re: Cryosting is OP
Cryosting is great. Mostly just for a single person, takes time to respond to, but it can really fuck someone up if they aren't paying attention to the chill.
Also, if you don't have coffee, you can use any of the chem-removal chems (like anti-toxin) to clear if out faster, or just dump yourself in cryo (which will make the cold heal you). You could even inject cryoxadone if you wanted, and it would almost certainly be very helpful.
Knowing this means understanding what cryo sting is: it's an injection of frost oil (and possibly another chem? can't remember) but the important thing is that it's a chemical, not magic.

i dont know if you know this but you can screwdriver open space heaters and turn their heat way way way up, the max setting can generally keep you alive in space if you have a firesuit to go with itSteelpoint wrote:Should test if being next to a Heater is enough to keep you alive.
did you test it with the heat modified or not?

Cryosting is only OP in space/the asteroid etc, where you're in a space suit, so it effects you super hard, but if you take off the suit you'd just die even faster.

Don't fuck around and get to a vending machine, or get the fuck out of your space suit.
It won't kill you by itself, not to mention its the only "stun-esque" ling ability.

Even if your naked you will still die from a Cyrosting if it is left untreated.
Its just that depending on your clothing the effects of Cyrosting will occur quicker or slower.
