tgui random airlock wires

Post by Actionb » #148711

Are the tgui wires WIP? Because:

Image

Really? 50 shades of green?
yellowgreen - greenyellow - lime - limegreen - lightseagreen.
What's wrong with the former plain 'black', 'yellow' and 'red' wires.

And was randomizing the wires necessary? It's bad enough to find the right wire in a stress situation as it is, but now the green wire you are looking for is in a random position on every airlock, burried inbetween ten other green-ish wires.

Randomizing the wire order doesn't make any sense, adds no real depth or strategy, and is just annoying. Airlocks use standard designs, and even NT isn't that cheap.

Make a big list of every single crayon color and have the game pick some from a list at the start of each round to use in wire colors, IMO.

those three are almost the same colour

actually you know what would weed out the casuals

have a box that shows the colour but don't actually have the colour name typed out for display for each wire

make spessmen not only remember what colour is what wire but then randomize the wire order, so they have to be really good at differentiating between colours like floral white and INTERNAL DISCUSSIONS during an emergency

Electrical wires in airlocks seem to be quite simple, barring the AI control wire, so I imagine you simply strip the insulation from both ends and wind them together.

You probably don't even need to do that, the "insulation" is bad enough that if you touch the outside of the wires you get shocked anyway. Probably just grab two wire ends, twist, and then use the hand-end of the wirecutter joints to crimp them together.

Speaking of which, wirecutters aren't insulated either. What do they buy the red stuff for?

Red, red, red...who else uses red...could it be that our wiring and wirecutting insulation is actually delivered by THE SYNDICATE?! Though, uhh, admittedly the idea that security is a syndicate force is a little far-fetched given how fighty some of them are.

Well, could us plebs get some info on what stays and what is unintentional?
Is wire randomization intended?
Are the dumb names and colours going to stay?
Why are there now like 8 wires on APCs, when APCs only have 3 functions (shortcircuit, AI control, unlocked interface)?
And why are wirecutters red?

Having random wires just punished people for not stealing yellow gloves round start, since they got something like a 50% per door to zap themselves, instead of a 50% once off.

Having 50 autistic names is seriously really dumb and serves no purpose.

Wire randomization is not intended, a list was being shuffled twice.
Colors are here to stay unless someone provides me with a better list. They need to be named CSS colors, and I need around ~25 of them.
I asked for a list before but no one replied, so I just used all of them.
APCs have dud wires as do many things. I believe I kept the numbers about the same as before, might have raised some to be round numbers. Consider them fluff.

The UI is temporary, we're working on a 'clickable' interface based on wire graphics. The main issue is coloring wires; I need to write code to do it serverside because of IE8.

Red, Green, Blue, Navy, Black, Cyan, Lime, Indigo, Crimson, Silver, Gold, Yellow, White, Pink, Magenta, Violet, Turquoise, Brown, Orange, Purple, Teal.
Why would you ever need 25 wires at once? (And the wire lights are different too now, I think.)

Some of those colors don't work well on dark backgrounds. Anyway, 25 is just for expandability (you never know!), and because its a nice round number.

I would make sure all your colors show up well against #272727 and #131313 before suggesting them.

We had navy and black wires on a very dark background, and it wasn't a problem, because ... well, if you can't quite see the name of the wire on a first glance, it's most definitely 'black' or 'navy'.
neersighted wrote:Anyway, 25 is just for expandability (you never know!), and because its a nice round number.
Aren't airlocks the 'objects' with the most functionality? And with 16 wires on them, they still have dud wires that do nothing while the only inaccessibly airlock function via hacking is enabling the emergency access override (disabling is done via pulsing IDscan wire).

It really isn't easy to pick 25 colours that aren't too similar to each other...

22: DeepSkyBlue 00BFFF

Dud wires did have a point actually, if you were manually sabotaging a door you could cut a bunch of dead wires to make people have to guess on what wire was the right one to repair but if they had gloves they'd just repair all of them anyways so I guess it was kinda pointless.

How do dud wires affect guessing, if you hit a dud wire you just guess again.

I guess the dud wires are so random greyshits don't grab a mutlitool and screwdriver and start pulsing shit until they can't anymore. Makes it take longer and make them more likely to hit the shock wire rather than a useful one.
