what is the point of pen pockets?

i keep meaning to post this but i keep forgetting

what is the point of pen pockets? people rarely use pens in the first place, and if the need arises there's one that comes with every pda, and even THEN pens arent that hard to find.

the only thing they seem to do is just be a pain in the ass when you're trying to give someone a medal and you cant since they're "already wearing an accessory," which could be an oversight / bug for all i know i suppose, but still

It is to solidify the nerdy jobs on the station as being the nerds that they are. all we need are mandatory orthopedic shoes.

Also you can carry e-daggers in them, which are stupidly robust throwing weapons. and sleepypens. and people rarely look in your jumpsuit storage.

Check whats inside of the mime's protector, it doesnt carry pens, it carries their makeup.

It's kinda dumb and it messes with icons.
If you drop a jumpsuit with it on the floor you'll only see the pocket protector in altclick.
Not only that it impedes pinning medals and such on people.

This is mine as well. When my Science staff do impressive work, I like to reward them with the Nobel medals. The protector is even more annoying to remove; You cannot do it with a click, and you cannot easily remove your own jumpsuit with a single left-click, either.

FYI you can remove them like any other accessory with alt-click

The first thing I do as engineer/atmos after I *wag is remove my pocket protector and throw it in the trash. This is coming from someone who actually utilizes writing in game. While we're at it, I will always throw away my t-ray scanner seeing as engineering goggles come with the option and don't take up valuable bagspace.

I suppose the point of pocket protectors is to remind you you're in a nerd profession. I wouldn't miss anything if we just stopped spawning with them. On the other hand, removing the pocket protector takes a couple seconds and it's part of my preparation once the round starts, I lose nothing by having it and me removing it gives the station a lived in feel if I throw it to the side to litter the corridors.
