To be totally honest I haven't seen a single issue with catpeople in game. Like, not a single person going around being an asshole because they were a catperson or someone else was a catperson. It's like totally completely a nonissue. The only time this ever pops up is when one person complains in OOC asking if they can valid catpeople, or on the forums where you get a couple of loud people complaining about it (some who haven't played in weeks or months) being forumwarriors over things that in the grand scheme of things mean nothing. That's just my take on it.
P.S. Shoot Dr. Allen on sight and dissolve his body in acid. Don't burn it.

Well it kind of helps when Catpeople have not been relevant until very recently.

E: I'm sure that Lizardpeople had no issues or complaints before they became wildly used in game as a race.

Again, until Cat people become a round start race akin to Lizards you simply won't see as many complaints or annoyances from Cat people.

Its unfair to declare Cat people as acceptable due to no complaints BEFORE they've been made a round start race.

We were in this position when we added Lizardpeople, but over time the situation we are in now with Lizardpeople being obnoxious evolved.

We are not Elder Scrolls, Cat People should be kept confined to the realms of Admin abuse or higher level genetic manipulation (kidnap Runtime for experimentation). Cat people are just fucking obnoxious, stupid looking and seem out of place in my opinion.

Again, if you can slap a pair of ears on a Human and call it a '''Alien''' race, then its unoriginal and bad.

Other races can always be capped, with people simply rolling for special snowflake races at the start of each round. Say 10% of starting population can be lizard, 10% can be cat person, rest are human. If more than 10% opted into lizard, well then some of them will be human instead.

If the issue of race being an integral part of a player's identity comes up, then there could be entries added for different names based on race - similar to how there are fields for clown and mime names, there could also be "lizard name" or "cat person name".

Cat people aren't a race, people use the term race here because it's quicker than "Human with animal parts", it's not a species in theme or code, the closest term is mutant, like Hulk.

Also I like Liam's idea, but obviously having the percentages being in the config, and probably more 20% than 10%

They are a Alien race unless you specifically make it something that can only be created by genetically manipulating a Human.

The concept of 'mutantraces' was made back when there were no round start non-human Alien races to pick, and that mutantraces referred to things that came as a result of either genetic manipulation or from accidents such as hulks or flypeople.

In all concepts except for the very specific coding terms that 95% of people don't know about, these are Alien races being proposed.

Even if they were not, what difference would it make?

We already cap jobs and antagonist roles and assign them randomly, I don't think this is much different. And if the goal is to avoid non-human crew becoming the majority, percentage caps make it reasonably fair - meaning everyone has a chance to play a special race every so often, without the risk of the whole crew being cat people because everyone wants to be oh-so-special.

As to whether non-human-crew SHOULD EVEN NOT be allowed to be a round start majority... well that's for the community to decide. I know my immersion would be challenged if the entire ship was lizard people. I can understand a few lizards in the crew, but I think a human majority is required for my personal immersion reasons. So I'd say I'd prefer it capped, but I wouldn't be too bothered if the caps weren't introduced. It's merely a preference, not something I feel super strongly about.

It was explained lore wise that most intelligent species in the Milky Way galaxy were specifically grown and evolved from a single species at the behest of a super galactic power.

But otherwise let's not forget that the original Star Trek is very old and very hacky in their implementation of many things, also we can do better than slapping ears on something, and we have.

This is a game were talking about, not reality. In the same way as we have lizard people, sometimes people like to portray a charcter thats entirely not what they're like in the real world. Which is why games like MWF are so popular, no one seriously expects soldiers to run around taking bullet after bullet and to wait a few seconds then carry on.

Just cap it and it'll be fiiine. This issue really doesn't need a heated battle between the "ALL RACES ARE BAD, CANTINA STATION RAWR" and "MUH FREEDUMBS, MUH RACIAL EQUALITY" absolutists views. Just take the extremely easy compromise and make a cap.

Good banter as usual. I'm conflating cat tails with butt plugs because, well, they're a thing. A method of attachment. The obvious one, in certain drawings. I've seen the pictures!

Mostly I'm reacting to it as a sexual thing because I can't remember ever seeing anime catgirls in a context that wasn't sexualised. I think the western equivalent would be a race of rabbitpeople that had the playboy 'bunny' ears as their distinguishing feature. Anyway, if you're really that keen on defending it as an important game addition and not just a weird and tacky reference, go ahead. Prove me wrong! I'm happy to be wrong, even.

If job restrictions are enabled, cat people are allowed only in civilian roles, Cargo Tech and Lawyer. it's hard-coded.

Two options

Keep them gone. They're horrible from a balance point of view because they're so so similar to humans. If we want more races, they need to be very visibly different.

Unless, of course, we want to change AI laws so that all crewmembers are classed as "human" as we know it right now. That would allow us to make monster girl races without there being balance problems because everyone would be invalid to harm from silicons.
