How would SS13 have been with fixed round lengths?
I am not saying we SHOULD have fixed round lengths, that is way too much of a fundamental change. I just found it an interesting thought.
I think it would give way more incentive to actually fix problems and not bail out at the first moment. Currently we have a system where basically boring rounds where nothing happens last long, and intensive rounds are short.
I think it would really change the dynamic of the game and also allow for people to prepare their actions more as they know how much time is left, instead of having the constant feeling that everything can be over in minutes.

Murderbone happens, the killer and the victims idle and play something else, round restarts, repeat.

Re: How would SS13 have been with fixed round lengths?
It would be a boring one size fits none solution, some rounds are slow some rounds are quick. Depends on way too many factors to codify in a system.
If I was going to do a 'fixed length' type of system I'd make it more of a dead man's switch type thing where the shuttle auto-calls itself at times milestones with the crew in charge of sending it back from whence it came.

Wizard/Nuke Ops/Blob/Gang/Clockcult/Bloodcult = 30 minute fixed shuttle call
Traitor/Ling/DoubleAgent = 1 hour shuttle call
Everything else = 2 hours
If less than 33% of the crew are alive, respawn is turned on for three minutes.
Respawning with the same name or using knowledge of your past life is a bannable offense.

I've tried this a few times before on live servers with hour long traitor/traitoresque round and it usually works out pretty well except when someone releases the engine early. I'd never suggest it be the norm though.

What about a Crew vs ??? mode where roundtime is fixed, like the old Meteor mode?

Re: How would SS13 have been with fixed round lengths?
For the record, I am 900% more likely to send an ERT when the Captain/Acting Captain uses the Communications console to send a request to central command. I've even been on the brink of considering an ERT, then delayed/decided against it because an Antagonist broke into the bridge and gave a convincing (and fake) situational report and a good reason why the Captain wasn't the one sending the message.Armhulen wrote:i know this sounds stupid but the captain ordering ert squads might be interesting, sadly I know it'll just be abused : (
Not all admins will do this, but good roleplay and IC justification can open a lot of doors, in my opinion.

Re: How would SS13 have been with fixed round lengths?
I only send an ERT when someone requests one or there is a lowpop murderboner and I can't think of any way to help the surviving crew. Sadly its insanely rare for people to send serious messages to centcomm.
