90's weeaboo fighting game #2

Post by DrPillzRedux » #38851

Recently re-released as freeware, Alice Senki 2 is a fighting game with characters from AliceSoft eroge studio. The game contains no sexual content and would be about a T-rating if esrb jacked off on it. This fucking game is fun. You'll end up busting mad combo's on Japanese people online in no time.

casual tactics only work against casual players
none of the pros mash square because its a shitty combo thats there to use as a crutch
its for persona fans so that they can play the story even if they dont like fighters

This. If you seriously think button mashing is in any way an optimal strategy you are a complete moron. And I mean complete moron, because it means you can't even complete basic logical processes that make the entire concept of button mashing=good laughably retarded.

I know man. You should go to EVO or something and explain how mashing square is strictly superior to high end fighting game mechanics that prevent any random asshole from showing up and running the tournament. You got SQUARE. There are no mechanics that heavily punish you for mindlessly mashing that shit like blocking into a fatal counter and then going into a full combo in Persona 4 Arena that you repeat when your opponent inevitably tries to attack rather than block and wait for an opening. You would be completely immortal!

This reminds me of how fucking brutal the autocombo bullshit was in Ultimate Mortal Kombat.

You could just mash a button and beat the fucking shit out of someone trying really hard. The game was stupidly generous with that.

That may up your damage a ton but ultimately either being able to mix up in order to consistently enter combos or being able to read what your opponent is doing is where the power players are born, depending on the style of the game. Knowing an insanely high damage combo isn't helpful if you flub it and the game has a high level of commitment to attacks, or if you can't break a block with a mix up in a low commitment game and thus will inevitably at best do nothing and at worst get countered. From what this video is showing me being able to get a good read is way more important than combos, because you basically are fighting underwater and commit really hard to your attacks. The initial attacks seem to be doing about half the damage of the really big combos, and even then at the end of that chain what really screwed the other guy was immediately getting hit again because he made a poor read and entering into a new chain.

Combos are great, don't get me wrong. Knowing them is after all important for reading your opponent and knowing what you can do. But it is best to think of fighting games, early on, as a series of exchanges that start with someone making a choice, proceed to someone making the right choice and getting damage off of it because the opponent is unable to recover from a mistake, and another choice beginning once the combo, throw, or special ends. Knowing how to combo well, assuming infinite are not in play, helps make choosing poorly against you more devastating, but how devastating depends on the game and ultimately you don't get the damage of a super fancy combo unless you land it anyway. Consistently winning exchanges with mid length combos is just frankly a better place to start learning.

EDIT: Combos seem to get larger than that but it still stands that just because you can get 50% damage on a full meter combo doesn't mean that the fundamentals of fighting games goes away. People who win fighting game tournaments may know good combos but often are much more focused on what state their opponent is in and how to follow up based on a specific situation once a combo ends.

If you mash Square as Kanji you deserve to get wrecked. Also, if you mash square against Kanji you're going to get wrecked. Grapplers always shit on that sort of thing.

Also UNIEL is never getting a PC release before the heat death of the universe so I mad.
