Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
This game is fucking sick

Just played through a whole galaxy and I super recommend it, there's all kinds of crazy shit you can do
One time I was moving to capture a target, but the only path to him had been completely breached to space due to a stray bullet hitting a fuel tank. I had no teleporters that could get across the gap, and trying to jump it would just launch me into space, but I did have breach grenades. Breach grenades blow up entire rooms to space. I tossed one under the breached room, and one above, tearing the section of the ship that my target was on completely off of the rest of the ship. Then I redocked my pod with one of the breached walls of the now-separated ship debris and was able to reach my target.
One time I had to assassinate a guy for my character's personal mission. I found out that I could dock an unrelated ship, kill its entire crew (who were much less equipped than the crew that were on my target's ship), commandeer it as the new pilot, then use its missiles to simply blow up the entire ship my target was on while dodging missiles that it fired back.
One time I had a mission to rescue somebody with the ghost clause, where you're not allowed to injure anybody or allow anybody to see you long enough to notice you. I used slipstreams (devices that make time 10x slower, but make you 5x faster, meaning essentially that time slows down and you move super fast) and carefully planned routes to simply run through hordes of guards, nab the key to the next door right off of them, then sprint through the now unlocked door before they could even realize what was happening. When you're rescuing somebody, you can't use any devices or weapons while carrying them, so getting back out was looking like it would be a bit tricky. Luckily the guards have a vision system, and you can stay behind them to keep out of sight. I tailed a guard as he went on patrol to evade sight, then found the nearest window with no guards around, shattered it, and launched myself and my rescue target into space. Finally, I swooped both of us up with my remote controlled pod to save the day.
My rarest gear was probably a self charging subverter. It basically nullified ships that only had shielded guards as it could not only disable their shields but make it so that the shield only reflects bullets coming from the inside, meaning that if they shot at me their bullet would bounce back and hit them. Self charging gear is stupidly rare, so I was incredibly lucky to find it. I passed it on when I retired that character and was lucky enough to find it again with a future character, who made good use of it as well.
Fun game, you guys should play it so we can share stories.

subversion grenade launchers are fun
armour piercing stun guns are also fun
but the most fun tool of them all has to be self-charging glitch traps
also, throwing a wrench at some poor bastard, beaming it into your hand, beaning somebody else and throwing it again is a great way to clear a room in like less than half a second and i'm amazed it took me that long to figure out

Re: Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
It's fun to hoard weapons and use them in sequence to mass murder since weapon cooldown is weapon-specific.
Fun tip: with two 2$ wrenches you can clear groups of 4 by hitting two then throwing both at the remaining ones. 5 if you teleport a wrench back.
Another fun tip: putting a glitch trap near the entrance means that people who want to drag you out get teleported away before doing so, letting you wake up

Still new at it but the game is boss.
I feel like a sad slut having the offworld pod that heals you when it picks you up.

Re: Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
I always got the glitchers tick pod, being able to blink straight into a dock as soon as the target ship is in visible range is just so good. Docking manually isn't as exciting after the 1000th time, either

Re: Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
you know, one thing i don't really understand
that's been mentioned in this thread
is the problem with having to carry hostages or rescued personnel back to your pod
usually because i tend to kill or incapacitate all crew on the ship and then steer it back home

As the ships get bigger or your enemies start being decked out in shit like always-on shields this becomes a less viable strategy.DemonFiren wrote:you know, one thing i don't really understand

On the other hand, you can always crack a window and extract that way.

Re: Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
Why would you go kill everyone on the ship when you can just throw your target out the window and pick them up in space?
Saves you on time and ammo
Also self-charging anything is good. Item retrieval missions sometimes have them as the item, so you can shop around taking those missions and then using the experimental stuff

Re: Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
I have a non-Steam version of that game which I should probably update, because the items I'm supposed to retrieve don't tell me what they are.
And capturing ships is fun. It also instantaneously sells all the items on that ship that you didn't pick up or mark for transport, which is kinda convenient.

The prototypes that you have to steal in missions don't actually tell you what they are, you just have to try them out (and hope it wasn't something with limited use, or you just fail the mission).DemonFiren wrote:I have a non-Steam version of that game which I should probably update, because the items I'm supposed to retrieve don't tell me what they are.

As far as i could see, they're basically random items with random stats.

Re: Heat Signature: Gunpoint/Hotline Miami in space
If you go into the practice VR room, you can try out steal mission items with no consequence. If you get something good you can retire and pass it on, it can get you some really good shitXDTM wrote:The prototypes that you have to steal in missions don't actually tell you what they are, you just have to try them out (and hope it wasn't something with limited use, or you just fail the mission).DemonFiren wrote:I have a non-Steam version of that game which I should probably update, because the items I'm supposed to retrieve don't tell me what they are.

It was fun for a couple of hours but the ai is dumb and predictable, shields requiring hard counters sucks, the slow down reaction time makes combat too easy - not like hotline Miami

You generally want to play around shields instead of trying to go out of your way to kill them all. You have to be able to work with more than 1 playstyleMalkevin wrote:It was fun for a couple of hours but the ai is dumb and predictable, shields requiring hard counters sucks, the slow down reaction time makes combat too easy - not like hotline Miami

Yeah, most of my runs I was able to get a silenced quickfire super shotgun, just making those not appear in the shop as often would be a good buff for other gunsArmhulen wrote:They have to buff rifles.

i played for a while and it was fun for the first few hours
eventually you hit a skill ceiling and its far to easy and repetitive
maybe a difficultly mode with no pausing and add a item that slows time down?

I think he doesnt mean the slipstream, but rather to replace the in-combat time slow with a slipstream
it's incredibly easy if you can literally dodge bullets any time you want
