And the curse of a stand alone / successor to SS13 carries on, with no game even coming close to being released.

Ion. By the creator of Dayz, he has stated he was heavilly inspired by SS13 with Ion. Apparantly its not just a solo project either, I'd say this one has a great chance of at least releasing.

IS THIS PROJECT DEAD?
The site was set up to act as a dedicated hub for both BYOND SS13 and any other version that may see the light of day. The SS13 remake as we know it is no longer in development. This does not mean it will never happen, just not in this form. This site will continue to act as a dedicated space for all things Space Station 13.

While this may disappoint some of you, it was incredibly educational for those of us on the team. We had a very bare bones form of the game running, and with some additional work, time and content, we believe it is possible for an iteration of SS13 to exist separately from BYOND. This is hopefully where the community comes in..

We want to thank every single one of you for sticking with us for all this time.

this was the one that had the kickstarter, right? isnt the point of that so they have enough money to work on it (near) full time? exactly what DID they do? what does the latest playable build of the game look like?

this whole thing is starting to sound more and more like a group of 12 year olds or something found unity, decided to make a game and then ran when they found out exactly how hard it is to make a game

Unless there's another one I can't find right now, their Kickstarter got canceled and didn't seem to be on track to finishing anyway and there was an IndiGoGo campaign where they made a whopping $5k. Also, I'm pretty the lead guy had actually been around the SS13 community in the pre-Goon days.

i posted that 3d remake a while ago that already has atmos/power grid/singularity engine and some other complicated shit set up, looked promising.
