X Wing Alliance is still the best space sim game to play if you want to have sweet space battles with your friends.

It's been 17 years and still nothing has beaten it.

Freespace 2 gets an honorable mention but something about it still feels kinda lackluster compared to the Star Wars series.

House of the Dying Sun looks like it was purposely made for me and I keep closing and re-opening Steam in hopes that it'll finally appear in Early Access and let me purchase it.

I don't think it really goes much deeper than space combat. They've mentioned that you'll earn stuff for doing well that can be spent upgrading your fleet and ships but that's all.

It has a ton of crunch, although it may just seem that way because I have not played it a ton yet. For example everything has durability, but i am about ten levels down with my shit all degrading and I have no idea how to repair it. Crafting seems to all be done with stationary workbenches and stuff but you either need to guess all the recipes or look at the horrid wiki charts. Despite all this (holy shit I cannot overstate how shitty the voice acting is) it is still pretty fun

I tried playing Salt and Sanctuary some now that it's out on the PC.
Maybe if I had played it prior to DS3's release like the console peasants I might like it more.

As is I don't like anything about it. I guess the music is decent? If I had to say something nice about it it's that. It's like this whole game was made just to capitalize on pre-DS3 thirst for souls (can't stand waiting? buy my game to help pass the time for their game!) and now that I can just play DS3 this game has no redeeming value.

It's a great time to be a gamer on PC with Steam refunds basically forcing devs to let you demo their title for a short time before actually committing to buying it. In a post-demo marketplace this is arguably an even better way of doing things.

I'm still bumbling through but damn everything in this game looks so alien and trippy. IMPOSSIBLE GEOMETRY everywhere. There's an interesting system in conversations and interactions where when a skill check is required you can add might, speed or intellect points to increasing your chances of succeeding.

The entire point of the Dangan Ronpa games is that you don't look up the plot because knowing why these kids are locked up inside a school/on a tropical archipelago (not to mention who's gonna die and whodunnit) ruins a lot of the tension and surprises.

That would make sense if there were gameplay elements that didn't revolve entirely around figuring out whodunnit. If you go into the investigation portions already knowing the killer and knowing what to look for, you're just speedrunning a checklist of stuff and reading text blocks. Similarly if you go into the trial portion already aware of who the murderer is you're just playing a weird little QTE game with some very light shmup stuff going on.

Like, these games are 9/10th's story and 1/10th gameplay. And you're saying you only play them for that 1/10th is just really goofy sounding.

Enjoy whatever you want but it's like ordering a pizza because you really like the box it comes in.

I'm the type of person to read into the plot before coming to a movie so that I can focus on all the finer details of the film. Like the shit that normally you would miss if you didn't know the story behind it. Games are kinda weird in the fact that I want to know as well but uh it's interactive so it could ruin the experience.

Still obsessively playing warsword conquest for mount and blade. Started a new file as dorfs because trying to wage war against Sylvannia is like fucking pulling teeth. They have a full kingdom's worth of lords and probably 7-8 castles and two towns in an incredibly small mapspace, so any time you try to seige on of their castles every single vamp counts lord is a half days travel away unless they are off raiding and will come fuck your shit repeatedly with their nigh impossible to kill heavy cavalry.

Playing as dorfs is awesome because you essentially have nothing but badass heavy infantry and badass gunners, no need to muck about with cavalry. They can even get Dwarven Master Engineers that have very powerful cannons akin to the large cannons in Napoleonic wars, only man portable. Been rolling around blowing up orcs and goblins, it has been really good so far. Dorf high king is a bit of a dick though, wont give me any feifs even though i have reconqored this one fortress myself twice now

The second case in Daganronpa 2 hit the notes I expected it to from reading what happens but the delivery was quite good. This game seems like a big step up from the first game in both difficulty and fucking with the rules, which is a big positive for me.
