I was recently playing my favorite game, ss13. Someone addressed me rudely over comms, and in order to preserve my Gold Standard reputation, I replied: “ur an idiot”. Imagine my surprise, when moments later, an admin bwoinked me for saying so! At the time I took it with good grace, but as time passed it began to wear on my soul. Why does the best ss13 server inflict upon itself such strict rules? How does saying ur violate community and game guidelines? When had I stopped living by my morals? Had I really fallen so far to actually live and die by an anonymous strangers ruling?

Anecdotes aside, lets get to the real grit of this. If one were to consult the dictionary, the pronunciation of each is as follows.

You’re /yo͝or,yôr/ - Rhymes with door

Ur /yur/ - Rhymes with durr

Obviously, despite their similar meanings, the pronunciation and intended use of each are quite different. This is clearly not net speak, my father, a man who uses technology for nothing other than work and watching his favorite television show, routinely says ur to me. So therefore, there is no real reason to censor people from using ur in normal speech in game.

I would have raised this issue sooner, but I decided to give the headmins some time to settle in before throwing them a curveball. Now that they have faced the warm-up debate of felinids, I present to you the ur issue.
