How does one become an admim?

I know they have to become a trial admin first and then you become an admim and then can be voted for head admin but I'm not sure how one becomes a trial admin. Is there an application? A nomination? Are new trial admins only accepted at certain times?

What is the procedure?

Anyone can become a headmin, not just admins. It's just that nonadmins probably won't get elected in. An admintrainer or headmin probably has to invite you to be an admincandidate, and then a trialmin. Admincandidate is given on a round-to-round basis, so a senior admin makes sure you know what you're doing and educates you on how to be an admin.

You're approached by an admin (or apparently ask, some think asking is a big nono, YMMV) and they candidate you for a while. You're trained for a bit, and if the person who's nominated you thinks you're ready, you get trialmin. After 2/3(?) months, you get a thread where everyone comments on how well you did, and barring anything going wrong, you'll become a full fledged admin.

Headmin is a different thing, as mentioned - there's elections for those roles.

Your background matters. Newer players are not usually vetted, players with extensive notes and bans are not usually vetted, players that are regarded as unstable or unreliable in positions of power are not usually vetted.

Set a good example for others and be a pillar of the community. Admins notice that sort of behavior, even if they don't acknowledge it.

It's the only way that some of the admins are in their positions. For the sake of my faith in humanity I refuse to believe that people took a look at them and thought "hey, we should give this person a position of power!"

if we're looking for admins and i notice you observing a shitload anyways i might check your connections/notes/demeanor in game and on forums and if it checks out i might ask you if you'd be interested in joining up. sometimes i will ask in OOC or deadchat if anybody is interested outright then check them specifically, but a player asking for admin unprovoked is usually a red flag.

not sure we're in a great deal of need for new admins at the moment unless you're in a euro/latenight timezone

the real answer to this question right now is "move to europe, australia, asia, or really not the US." a few weeks ago "main Sibyl" would also have been accepted but we're good on those now

A person seeking a power position is generally doing it for the power of the position and not because of the work it imposes. Lots of people would sign up to admin if it just meant banning people they don't like.

Still doesn't explain how it's a red flag, obviously not everyone who asked would become an admin since every other vetting system is still in place. E.g. old player, static namer, no notes or bans, people know he's a cool guy, but he had the GALL to ask if he could apply for adminship, tsk tsk that's a red flag right here!

On the other hand, if you turn it into a gentlemen's club, someone who is asked if he wants to be admin could accept it just because "wow there's my only shot at becoming admin, can't let it slip!" even though he's not really motivated for the job. While those who are really motivated and are applying because they actually want to help are turned away just for asking and lumped together with the power-hungry mob.

Kind of like filling out an application to volunteer for most anything in life. I guess logic for that is dumb too as they can deny application based upon negative history, lack of experience, or other circumstances. People who have inquired have been made admins but many are turned away because of such above reasoning.

iirc this is always the thing in most cases, there's only a handful of exceptions from what i can see.
