Rex is an excellent admin, very active and helpful. If they want to, I bet they would be a great admin trainer.

EDIT: I woke up and was worried this sounded like a neg, Rex would make an excellent headmin but especially a good influence on the new generations of admins.

I will vote my Yog. Random good fresh blood!

I would be interested to see how more cross server interaction would play out as the communities are very gated.
Also, I would be curious to know for admin mental health side if you would do Nameless did for Riggle years ago as Riggle was non-stop to take care of the servers. So they had a month break off.

I think the other servers arent as gated as we think, and if we reach out I think they will reach back. All of them might not, but we only need some. SS13 is better if we all work together to make it a better place and other communities are a part of that. I'm not aware of the Nameless Riggle incident mentioned, but it is very important to take breaks to keep enjoying the game, burnout is real and it sucks.

The Nameless "Riggle" break, not incident, seeing someone burnout or just do too many hours over a long time.

Mhm. I don't think we should force a break on someone unless its clear they are suffering burnout, having mental health resources to recognise burnout and knowing when to take breaks is a great skill that we should be teaching admins. If a forced break does this it is a necessary evil. I can't comment on the specifics of the situation but I'm sure Nameless saw symptoms of burnout and not just "they play too much", because playing too much isnt something I think an admin should be put on a forced break over UNLESS they are showing signs of burnout.

Hi Rex,

I got a couple of questions regarding your platform.

- From what I gathered on the headmin player's club thread, you seem to be pretty enthusiastic about the events role that allows someone to request being essentially adminned for a round to run an event.

(For those that don't know, usually, but not always, there's another admin when an admin runs an event so they can provide support on tickets. This isn't planned out, it kinda just naturally happens.)

So this is already kinda organic and I dig it. However, ahelps and asay become visible to a non-staff members in the event runner role for that round. How would you propose managing leaks originating from that? (i.e.: John McTide gets month banned for something and the event runner drops that on the discord)

- How would you deal with the inevitable sharing of player and staff IPs, CIDs, and a ton of other stuff that would happen on cross-server cooperation? A new role? Something on the txt? And how would you liason that with another server? (since their data also becomes vulnerable to our staff)
I normally go by Ricky. Tell me how'd I do here.:beer: 𝒯𝒶𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒶 𝓈𝒶𝒷𝒶𝓉𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓁. :faggot::heart:

I am pretty enthusiastic about events since I've seen event runners to great things. Ideally I would like a role for event running that does not come with +ban though I realise this might be impossible. Assuming it is in fact impossible to have a specialised role without this +ban I would handle leaks harshly, leak shit and you get the boot, if you make it clear to an event runner that if they leak anything they will get a month ban for ban details and perma for anything ip or cid related I believe few people will do it, and if anyone does we can use these ban guidelines.

The issue of sharing player and staff IPs, CIDs etc can also be solved using a no +ban role. Assuming that is impossible I would set up these admin swaps with the hosts/headadmins of the server we are swapping with and come to an agreement on punishment for abusing the power they are granted from event running. Personally I would put this as an instant de-admin and month/perma if our admins break these rules, and if an admin from another server breaks them they would receive a month/perma and I would inform the host/headmin of the other server about their conduct which most likely violates their own admin conducts. I trust this to not happen since they are already entrusted with a lot of power by default. If you cannot be trusted with ips, cids etc on one server why would you be on another.

JSYK +ban really doesn't fully gate ips/cids (or admin chat). Anyone with VV can get ip/cid (at least off connected players unsure about generally) and I'm pretty sure anyone with perms of any kind gets achat.
Related, anyone with VV needs to be either trusted or monitored since we cannot make the permissions system robust enough to withstand a committed adversary with debug perms

Off that topic, you talk just a bit about events in platform but it seems to be a strong part of how you talk/are talked about outside of it. Do you consider it a key part of your platform or are you just trying to promote a more positive vibe.

If yes, how do you think we should go about motivating ADMINS to facilitate the running of events (or run them on their own)?
The perms required to hand out temp access like this are restricted, and the people who have them seem to be not strongly motivated to watch over events (at least from what I've seen in the past).
Headmins have tried to farm players for event ideas before, and while there's been not a ton of reception it seems like the real bottleneck is interested trainers/GMs.

They will be monitored, I'm not planning on sending them out solo and I'm sorry if that is the idea that has come across.

Events seem to be a key takeaway for people since its something I've argued about a lot, I like them because they give the game positive vibes and are in my opinion very good shakeups to the formula and like the rest of my platform it promotes good vibes. I would be doing my part as an interested headmin in getting these events ran but I really do think trainers/GM's are interested in the event runner role. I haven't seen a lot of people ask for event runner in my time (just 1 case off the top of my head in which it was granted) but then again I do not have access to trainerbus or any other such tools to check in on the trainers general beliefs surrounding this role.

When it comes to actually motivating admins for running these events or allowing players to run said events I think positive reinforcement will be key, thanking an admin or just pinging them to say their event was cool/thanking them for giving someone a role is something I want to encourage within our community and I believe it all starts with us admins. If we are nice and supportive of other admins events and are vocal about it in places like the general chat on discord it will trickle down to the community. This is of course all based on the idea that said admin responds beneficially to positive reinforcement but in my experience most people do. Ultimately admins are here to make sure everyone has fun, and if players say they had fun its gonna motivate the admins to do that thing more (like running events).

I've dragged you into a discussion thread in the admin channels and asked the trainers and GMs to give their input/experiences on this platform point.

It hopefully gives you some of that context you're missing about the two teams and what we do with player-events and the Event Runner role far better than the rest of us could.

Glad you asked! The favorite event I created was a prisoner thing were I sent down a few prisoners from syndicate factions who would recieve a special ability on breaking out like a battlecruiser summon card or romerol. To this end sec were informed and armed up to protect them whilst I sent in syndicate specific teams to help them out (m13 agents, a weakened nukie etc) it ended when a lone man managed to break the Windows and saved their prisoner with a suit. It was just dumb fun and everyone seems to have enjoyed it.

Assuming I can’t say the former for events I ran, I would say my favorite was one of my smaller IC events. Basically a player wearing a frog mask prayed something about a frog lord whilst on a heretic rune, so I made them into a special frog lords servant antagonist and gave them a task to bring Bodies and they would recieve more frog powers, they got a special cleaver that made frog sounds but ended up dying quickly. Despite this the players involved had a ton of fun and I myself had a lot of it by just creating stuff like the frog cleaver and some of the spells (off the top of my head one was like an aoe projectile fan of meathooks like a frog tongue thing).

For participated in some that come to mind are me being the mime lawyer for a wizard suing NT, invading CC for the rights to not bear pants, adminning on deltastation but awesome made by WalterTruck. Participated is the one where I don’t have a favorite, like 96% of events I have been in have been some of the most fun I’ve had.

When I look for an event I want there to be depth and lower amounts of handholding, leaving room for the players themselves to have agency in an event is very important to me and I like it when they have options. Like that prisoner event I mentioned, sec were not given a task beyond protecting the prisoners and the prisoners had no directions except to try to get out. How they did either of those things was fully up to them and it ended up in some really good roleplay and combat which lead to people leaving satisfied. That is the ideal event to me, one which is not fully railroaded but lets players explore their options.
