How to make clothing override HIDE inv flags from other clothes?

I wanted to make a PR that forces fake moustaches above headgear (top row), using alternate_worn_layer.

However, many helmets still use inv flag HIDEMASK, which I varedited out during my tests (bottom row).

Is there a way I could override the flag instead?

Funny enough I think your screenshot has the perfect hint as to the least snowflaked solution: what layer is the medal on? Could probably turn it into an item like that.
