[Cheshify] Fren256 - Dismissal of ahelp without further questioning
When and where this incident occured (Game Server, forums, Discord): December 9th, 2022 (probably), Manuel
Byond account and character name OR Discord name: Fren256, Sails-The-Stars
Admin: Cheshify
ROUND ID HERE IF APPLICABLE: 195990
Detailed summary:
I'd like to note that this is just a minor complaint and, as you may have noticed, this happened over 2 months ago, so I may not remember the details very well. Still, I want to get this off my chest to clarify things.
In the emergency shuttle, I got into a fight with Alfred Mimington (Not megatron) after I noticed he was stealing equipment from a sec officer I was performing surgery on. Long story short, I got critted and immediately ahelped to complain about his behaviour. From what I recall, the incident happened seconds before the shuttle arrived, so I wrote a quick ahelp to avoid ahelping next round. Cheshify took the ahelp and asked me what happened, so I began describing in detail the events, which took me a bit. I sent the message and a mere seconds later I got a response from them saying, in what I perceived an unproffessional manner, that I was the one who started the fight and shouldn't even have ahelped in the first place. After that I think I disconnected.
I won't deny that I was the one in the wrong, because as the logs show I did attack Alfred first. However, I believe that Cheshify did not try to check my side of the story, and so I felt their ruling was one-sided and outright rude. I understand if they wanted to end the round as quickly as possible, but perhaps they could have handled it better, maybe continuing the ahelp in the next round, or even rejecting my complaint in a better manner.
This is just my side of the story though, and my remembrance of the events may be incorrect, so if the ahelp logs could be provided I would appreciate it. I'd also like to hear Cheshify's side of the story, if they remember of course.

Thanks to Timber for posting the logs in such a concise manner.
I will admit some fault for part of this ticket, and any "curtness" you experienced during it. I tend to get in the mindset where I resolve tickets quickly (especially at roundend where delaying for longer than necessary is annoying to everyone. I very likely would have brought the ticket onto the next round had I found something that I believe warranted a further investigation.
What I had found was a rather open-and-shut "Roleplay Rule 2" scenario, wherein two players find themselves at-odds over an IC disagreement. In this case the person that crit you wanted the Warden's gas mask to emag it. You, not wanting the patient you're working on be robbed, attacked the thief and was totally in the right to do so. There, the fight escalates to them critting you over the assault. To me, that read like a totally natural escalation of IC wants clashing, and was not warranting a further response after I had two players telling me the same story with logs supporting that action.

This explains things so much better now, thank you. I guess this whole issue was just a matter of lack of communication, though I'll admit I was very jumpy at ahelping that round since I was pretty on edge at that time, so I apologize for that. In the future I'll try to be less trigger happy about resolving IC issues with ahelps.
Thank you Chesh and Timber for taking the time to address my issue. That is all on my part ^^

Just for keeping a tidy house and transparency purposes, are you formally withdrawing your complaint following Chesh's explanation?
I just want to make sure you're satisfied with everything and now wish to withdraw the complaint before I tidy this up.

No problem Fren, I'll certainly be taking this as a cue for the future to be a little more open when I'm trying to rush out a simple ticket like this in the future. What sort of message do you think I could have sent that would have satisfied you at the time? Something along the lines of this perhaps?Fren256 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 1:03 am This explains things so much better now, thank you. Get back to me whenever, I'd love to take the chance to improve ticket conduct.Hey there Fren256, after examining the altercation between you and the person that crit you, I found that this readily falls within normal role-play escalation. If you have any further questions, you can contact me when the round restarts.

I think this is a very good improvement. At least for me, the wording would make me feel that I was listened to, which was the main reason of why I was disgruntled by the response. However I understand it may not always be possible to write a response in this manner if you're under pressure to finish up (or if the person ahelping is being combative), so I'll leave it to your consideration.Cheshify wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 3:25 pmGet back to me whenever, I'd love to take the chance to improve ticket conduct.Hey there Fren256, after examining the altercation between you and the person that crit you, I found that this readily falls within normal role-play escalation.
