Your side of the story: So I was playing as Lilian Bern and I usually play as the HoS. So during the start of our round we had some cargo crew we were starting to rise up under the name of Cargonia. Eventually after a while, most cargo crew were gathering in front the Brig. I, as the HoS went unarmed towards them and asked them to move away from the brig, but as I was talking to their leader, the leader Suno started shooting me with a pistol. Clearly they had ordered weapons and started using them.
In order to protect the brig and my security personnel I armed all security personnel and we started shooting back. We started shooting at them from the entrance from the Brig, they than ran away and the most logical conclusion would be that they went to the cargo department. So we invaded the cargo department and shot indeed a player. At the moment we did not know whether or not he was innocent, but since he was not surrendering but running away we shot him and a few of my personnel kept shooting and thus he did indeed die. Again, if he was innocent we did not know yet.

I feel like this is an unfair ban, since I was literally doing my job as a HoS. If the man was truly innocent than we would be more than happy to clone him afterwards, but it was a stressful situation and accidents do happen. This sort of situations also happen in real life where innocent people get shot during a SWAT raid. Especially, if they do not surrender or yell that they're innocent.

One final note I would like to add. To me, it felt like the player who died by accident was DaxYeen himself. Now I don't know this, but it felt like DaxYeen was angry, especially since he did not give me a warning nor allowed me to correct the situation. It felt to me like DaxYeen was mad and felt he should punish for this.

Claiming the admin is who you killed is really facetious and untrue.

Anyways the issue was that you just ran into cargo where the two guys you were after weren't even anywhere and you killed someone who was just standing in cargo minding his own business nowhere near any guns or anything.

You were with a detective and another officer, you could've easily tased and arrested them but you just killed someone who didn't do anything, his attack logs were COMPLETELY empty as well.

This wasn't a fight, nor had he done anything to provoke you guys. You tased him and shotgunned him to death.

First of all, I didn't claim it you were the player who got shot, It was a suspicion, but I'm glad we cleared this one out.

Nowhere near guns is also incorrect since the cargo bay was filled with boxes which have contained weapons before. It isn't entirely unreasonable to assume that he might've been part of the rebellion. But since this a roleplaying game I would that you imagine yourself in the shoes of a security officer just after he has been shot by a group of cargo employees. You see someone not responding nor announcing that he is not part of the rebellion.I'll admit we were quite on edge after we've been attacked so we were handling a policy of shoot first ask questions later. What I do recognize is that the situation could've been handled better. We should have cuffed him and bring him to the brig. However, accidents do happen in stressful situations.

What I'm most disappointed about is that I did not even got the chance to defend my actions properly, not get a warning, nor get a chance to correct the situation. In my opinion it is really lacking of empathy and understanding for the security players (once again) who have to deal constantly with possible dangerous situations.

Also let me quote space law from the use of deadly force section: Code Red Situation - situations which would warrant a Code Red, such as: full blown mutinies hostile boarding parties, and Space Wizards automatically authorize lethal force.
Note: The Alert Status is not required to be elevated to Code Red as in most of these scenarios the Chain of Command will be too damaged or otherwise occupied to raise the Alert Level.

Indeed there was no rev, but in a RP game it doesn't need to be the gamemode in order a RP situation to arise and I said it was not a full blown mutiny, but it was a mutiny.

In my personal opinion the ban was unjustified given the circumstances the player was shot to death. In any realistic setting the death could be marked as an unfortunate accident. Since the intent was subjugating the revolt and not to kill that specific player for no reason at all.

I am detective Milo Franks, and here is what happened:

It all started early on in the round, when the quartermaster declared the independence of cargonia. We brushed it off over comms that it was not legal and that they are still part of the station, but we did not take any measures to crack down on them or anything like that. If an individual security officer detained a cargonian or there was any repurcussions against that department, I can not recall it.

However, later on, the quartermaster has been calling out "Shitcurity" over the comms, enhanced with a megaphone, and he clearly stated that he wanted to "end shitcurity" and secure the freedom of cargonia. We found out soon after, that him and a few other cargo-techs were standing outside of the brig, shouting shitcurity over and over again. I tried to argue with the leader, but they seemed hell-bent on escalating things further. Lilian Bern at this point, stepped out and called them peasants that should get back to work. Not very helpful to de-escalate the situation for sure, but this is where the situation became explosive because the cargo leader and other cargo-techs were pulling out guns and opened fire at Lilian Bern, who heavily wounded took cover in interior brig.
It was then that the decision to lethally neutralize the members of the cargo-department was formed, and shortly after, we stormed into cargo bay where we encountered the very unfortunate cargo-techie, who after being tasered by me, was executed.

Was lethal force necessary to detain him? Not really. But in the context of the situation, was it really a wrong thing to do? After all, the quartermaster repeatedly stated his intentions loudly over the comms, and the security department also made it very clear that they will be persecuted and shot. Those logs just is him screaming for help because sec is trying to kill him for no reason, which is what any sane man would do.

He didn't really need to surrender since he wasn't participating, the only thing he did was scream that sec was going ham on people that's not grounds to execute a man.

The 'act like an antag, get treated like one' part of Rule 4 of the main rules also apply to security. Stunning an officer repeatedly, using lethal or restricted weapons on them, disrupting the arrests or sentences of dangerous criminals, or damaging the brig, are examples of behaviour that may make you valid for security under Rule 4. Make sure players deserve it when you treat them as an antag, when in doubt, err on the side of caution as poor behaviour on the part of security will not be tolerated.

If you had arrested the crewmember and searched him, there would be quite literally nothing wrong. The issue is you treated the whole department as kill on sight. You have a plethora of non-lethal options to subdue people, and it's not acceptable to be treating a whole department as antagonists just because of the actions of one or a few members of it

We brushed it off over comms that it was not legal and that they are still part of the station, but we did not take any measures to crack down on them or anything like that. If an individual security officer detained a cargonian or there was any repurcussions against that department, I can not recall it.

However, later on, the quartermaster has been calling out "Shitcurity" over the comms, enhanced with a megaphone, and he clearly stated that he wanted to "end shitcurity" and secure the freedom of cargonia. We found out soon after, that him and a few other cargo-techs were standing outside of the brig, shouting shitcurity over and over again. I tried to argue with the leader, but they seemed hell-bent on escalating things further. Lilian Bern at this point, stepped out and called them peasants that should get back to work. Not very helpful to de-escalate the situation for sure, but this is where the situation became explosive because the cargo leader and other cargo-techs were pulling out guns and opened fire at Lilian Bern, who heavily wounded took cover in interior brig.
It was then that the decision to lethally neutralize the members of the cargo-department was formed, and shortly after, we stormed into cargo bay where we encountered the very unfortunate cargo-techie, who after being tasered by me, was executed.

Was lethal force necessary to detain him? Not really. But in the context of the situation, was it really a wrong thing to do? After all, the quartermaster repeatedly stated his intentions loudly over the comms, and the security department also made it very clear that they will be persecuted and shot. If he was innocent, he could have stated over the comms that he is not part of the conflict and that he surrenders. No measure was taken to do so, and that's why law enforcement assumed he was siding with the rebellion.

He was communicating to the cargo department, which means, he very well knew what was going on, and chose to be on the wrong side of the law. I would like this to be considered when reviewing the actions of Lilian Bern, thank you.

Please link the logs you are using when quoting the logs in an appeal, and ensure you're noting if you've excluded any lines inbetween. Failure to do so can lead to being made to remake appeals and so on and so forth.
