Re: Banned for reading open source code?
People should thank athath for finding and most importantly reporting so many bugs and exploits.
Athath have in conversation with me about my features pointed out potential exploits which has been very helpful. Beforfe the code went live, I might add.
Permabanning someone for doing free bug testing of our very buggy game made largely by amateurs seems insane.

there is a time and place to speedrun prison meth and discover niche exploits in underused game mechanics

Again, he tried to suggest exploits and spoil the event for people after already being banned for not fucking off. I`m gonna be honest omega I dont think this is a hill you wanna die on. He was warned repeatedly to not try and spoil the fucking event, and he just kept on doing it. This guy has a long history of abusing code to make the game fucking miserable for other people, and despite constant warnings and people telling him to directly fuck off he just hasn't. He should've been perma'd ages ago.Omega_DarkPotato wrote:>hops on twitch chat and suggests using the borgs behind display windows as land mines in the robotics event

Bruh did he really get beaned for "spoiling" a competition's structure? w h a t
Not even anything about the actual events just their names because someone left them publicly available?
Bonus points for the "lmfao yeah I banned you from the event you wanted to take part in you can appeal the ban AFTER I already cucked you hehe xD" fuckery.
Also "all you do is exploit code to make the game worse for everyone" is a plain fuckwit's accusation if the guy also makes up half the issue reports on github. If that's all the guy does, he wouldn't literally log every exploit for coders to fix online - he'd keep them to himself and just quietly use them.

Re: Banned for reading open source code?
I would have liked there to have been more detail about what he actually did to detrimentally impact the event to such an extent as to warrant a permaban.
ATHATH, in my experience of him in the Discord, is helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Whether it's sharing little hax you can do in-game, going codediving to answer some autist's question about whether sleeping carp with a buckler adds to block chance or something, or just providing a helpful bridge between the coder-illiterate and actual coders, his presence in the Discord is a positive one. I find it really bizarre he is permabanned for this, unless he did something that significantly harmed the event.
I don't check the coding channel much, because I can't read code, but I have noticed lots of coders disagree with ATHATH's opinions, and I have seen it spark pretty heated debates that seem to have gotten personal (the one I have in mind is from quite a while ago but I presume is the standard). I'm not sure if that's factoring in here, but this ban is truly surprising and I hope it's reconsidered, because ATHATH is a very helpful and active Discord user and the server is better with them in it.

Re: Banned for reading open source code?
You guys are missing a lot of context here - ATHATH has a history of only reporting actual detrimental bugs and saving the good ones to exploit whenever he wants to for giggles. He's been warned more times than I can count not to do shit like this and keeps doing it.
I'm not sure I agree with a perma, but knowing what other bugs and exploits he's done in the past, he really doesn't seem to give a shit about anyone's fun but his own.
E: He's also done this like three times for other events and has been told not to, so... I kinda don't have much sympathy for him.

Re: Banned for reading open source code?
Reading this thread it has become clear to me ATHATH is a guy who loves to share niche code knowledge, do fun things with it and is possibly concerned about the amount of bugs these days and the lack of impetus to fix them. An admin was upset they were upstaged and used the historical stuff that was previously not considered banworthy to justify permabanning him for it. Notice how they never tell you the nature of the exploit that was used to upgrade it to a permaban? Its consequences, for example? I don't think this ban will be upheld. A shorter ban would suffice to make the consequences of his actions seem real enough to avoid doing it in future.

Re: Banned for reading open source code?
Apparently open speculation on how to "exploit" the event from the perspective/same view as anyone else watching twitch chat was the final straw?
He said
"also, if teleportation works"
"can they extract the cyborgs from behind the windows"
"and then deploy them around"
"and then use a robotics console"
"to detonate them"
That would be the same as me saying "cant they make bluespace tomatoes and force the other player out of bounds" in the botany 1v1 event.
Literally every event was "exploited" to a certain extent due to the sandbox nature of this game.
Also how many times was it stated that this event wasn`t going to be "fair" and how many indecisive wins were there? How many times did a 3rd party intervene (the gorilla, steve harvey shooting people and spawning baseball bats during trivia, etc)
So why do the admins care so much that this one player speculated that there was a way to exploit the mech event in twitch chat of all places? It seems like they hated athath more than what he said.
I would be glad to be permabanned as well for enjoying a sandbox, I have a history + video evidence of me "exploiting" features in ss13 which allowed me to do things from harmless pranks to murderboning as antag. Underscorecow -gaming.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA2019-5-29 - I know it wasnt malicious but please dont make your name a url via agent card and then ask an AI to orbit you, forcing people to click links is a bad idea and it's a slippery slope with bug abuse and potentially giving people the idea of linking malicious sites at silicons with their name
Honestly I was already team Ath but the admin response just makes me even more biased
Cringe ban other heads should overturn this shit - especially that fucking "you offered 'exploits' in twitch chat I'm making it a perma" hard cringe terrible ruling
Hell of the quoted "note history", only lagging the server intentionally was actually serious the rest are just admin excuses for a saltban

People giving far too much credit to ATH as he's far more selective with his bug reports than you might think as can be observed by how often he's arguing on github whenever there's a PR to fix a bug he likes to abuse, and he will routinely keep exploting bugs even after reporting them
I can't say if the ban was warranted as (sadly tbh) tg has historically been pretty lenient over bug abusing but trying to ruin an event is a compelling argument to get rule 1'd
