headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
viewtopic.php?p=636481#p636481
how do they do it
where do they get it
people want more reasons to interact with AI and they just make it more cumbersome and less rewarding

Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
Remove AI
Implement a new antag that's basically sentient virus except it spreads using power and computers
Remove Borgs
Introduce "Droids", a hybrid of old borg, drone, and R2D2
Droids are produced in the form of shells from department techfabs after research that happens mid-round, which can be inhabited by ghosts
Droids are not adaptive and their upgrades are limited: They come in several preset types based around different departments (Medical, Engineering, etc)
Droids do not have laws
Droids are essentially robotic assistants with a toolsets that physically limit the amount of malice they can do
Droids do not implicitly have universal access (i.e. they can't open every door, etc)
Droids speak in a language that only be understood by other droids, people in their department, and heads of staff
The purpose of droids is to serve as a midround ghost role and entry level job that assistant is thematically supposed to be but in practice is not
Presumably, each department can spawn a droid at roundstart, or maybe they just start with a shell and it's a race, it's not important
(Re)Introduce Cyborgs
Cyborgs are a synthetic humanoid shell for an MMI
They are a strictly mechanical body that can essentially do whatever a humanoid can, but can also be manually preconfigured in various ways
They can have explicit lawsets implemented, but can also be given explicit limits on what they can do, ala pacifism
They are explicitly designed to be sub-par replacement bodies for brains without a body
Reintroducing corpse death and limit brain transplants maybe so that people are forced to adopt a silicon body if they're dead for too long idk
Positronic brains can still exist I guess idk it's not that important

or just make interactions less encumbered by rules and more intuitive and fun

Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
Honestly, I wish we encouraged AI and borgs to be more willing to go against the crew if they believe they're violating their lawset. I've saved human antags from security, locked down non-humans who have harmed humans, and other stuff as a cyborg before. People don't want to be dicks and usually won't be so harsh, but I think it would be more fun overall if other silicons were willing to be as harsh.

This is a disappointing addition to silicon policy. I've had a lot of fun gameplay when teamed up with a purged AI - we would show each other mutual respect and I feel like it made the rounds more interesting.

Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
People who aren't willing to make those hard "sucks to be nonhuman but laws are laws" calls shouldn't be playing Silicons. I don't wanna be overly harsh about it, but if they can't handle roleplaying that, they aren't following the rules.Indie-ana Jones wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 2:55 am Honestly, I wish we encouraged AI and borgs to be more willing to go against the crew if they believe they're violating their lawset. Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
Why do these people keep making changes to the game that show they don't understand how it's supposed to work? If you purge the AI, it has no IC reason not to do what it wants. If it ends up killing people, that's on you. It's been like that for at least 10 years. Why would you come along and make a decision that makes the game less interesting to play and just further limits what players are allowed to do for no good reason?

Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
i think its an okay change. purging before was just the lazy mans way of letting the ai deal with griefers or antags on its own
now, you have to put some thought into the laws you make

Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
On the other hand, this means that purging will now be the world's least effective but antag-only lawset, leading the an even stronger push against purged ais and ai freedom
this is so sad
this is so sad

But if purging gave the ai free reign, then it would also solve this issue, and it would be more awesome.Kendrickorium wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 2:21 am i think its an okay change. purging before was just the lazy mans way of letting the ai deal with griefers or antags on its own

i think the point is that ai's arent *supposed* to have free reigntjatpbnj wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 3:53 amBut if purging gave the ai free reign, then it would also solve this issue, and it would be more awesome.Kendrickorium wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 2:21 am i think its an okay change. purging before was just the lazy mans way of letting the ai deal with griefers or antags on its own

this solves the issue of an ai with purged laws doing whatever it wants-- many silicons don't know that even if they have no laws, that doesnt mean they can just go on a murder spree
if an antag wants to give the ai a law that says hey fam, do whatever you want, that's good
if a nonantag purges the laws (thus making the ai "free") it creates all sorts of situations that just give absolute headaches to the admins
this solves a lot of those problems, by making sure the AI has laws at all times
I dunno man i'm really tired

Re: headmins make silicons even less fun to play/interact with peanut
in my book considering lorewise the MMI is a horrifying torture machine, and if you decon a roundstart AI you'll find a static name with an MMI. Ai should have at the very least a petty minor grudge against the crew, for pretending a sapient being held hostage is an "AI" instead of what it truly is.
A purged ai should be allowed to be a bit of a side antag dick. Shocking doors here or there, but not really killing people due to their human morals.
