Re: They're gone
Let's be real here, this isn't about OOC in IC, this is all about telling admins to kill themselves. We're allowed to have persistent friendships between shifts.
This is overall just a really sad situation. It's obvious the players were just really upset about their friend being banned. They were clearly in the wrong, but, if you ask me, not giving them a moment to grieve for their friend when they went out of their way to gather in the chapel for a funeral over it wasn't right either.
I hope they appeal, apologize, and get clemency.

I mean they were given a moment to grieve, if they hadn't decided to tell people to kill themselves during the funeral then nothing else would have happened.

If that's the case, the OOC in IC bit should be removed from their bans, since it implies it isn't allowed to hold in-game funerals for people and was a factor in their bans.

Its relevant because whilst the funerals would’ve been overlooked it turned ooc in ic when they started mentioning ckeysImitates-The-Lizards wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:37 amIf that's the case, the OOC in IC bit should be removed from their bans, since it implies it isn't allowed to hold in-game funerals for people and was a factor in their bans.

Oh, so it was less "Here lies [character name of person banned], our friend, exiled by the gods/jailed by centcomm, lets not forget him.", and more "Fucking admins banned Sk1wass3r, they should kill themselves."?TheRex9001 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 11:14 amIts relevant because whilst the funerals would’ve been overlooked it turned ooc in ic when they started mentioning ckeysImitates-The-Lizards wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:37 amIf that's the case, the OOC in IC bit should be removed from their bans, since it implies it isn't allowed to hold in-game funerals for people and was a factor in their bans.
Makes sense, then.
At first glance the bans implied they at least tried to keep it IC by yelling at Centcomm, but yeah, I see they call out justice in particular.

Re: They're gone
Do we even really care about mentioning ckeys for the purpose of a permaban? Seems like it ought to be left out entirely since the relevant issue was them telling people to kill themselves.TheRex9001 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 11:14 amIts relevant because whilst the funerals would’ve been overlooked it turned ooc in ic when they started mentioning ckeysImitates-The-Lizards wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:37 amIf that's the case, the OOC in IC bit should be removed from their bans, since it implies it isn't allowed to hold in-game funerals for people and was a factor in their bans.
Ckeys in IC seems like a note at worst.

It would’ve been, but they told people to kill themselves. And by centcom they are referencing the currently online admins in that situation.dirk_mcblade wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 11:19 amDo we even really care about mentioning ckeys for the purpose of a permaban? I'll also add that encouraging suicide is illegal in a few states, so maybe don't post illegal shit in the spessman game? Just a thought. But I guess I'm unqualified compared to some of the law school prodigies amongst the player base. I'm just an admin shill, really. I'm on their payroll.

Why would you have any reason to tell the players who they can/can't vote for? I feel like you need to realize something. This is a funny spaceman game. We are playing a funny spaceman game. The purpose of the forums, the admins, the discord, the rules, and the elections, is to enable and facilitate us playing a funny spaceman game.
There is no secret shadow government trying to control the playerbase. There are no meetings where we sit in a dimly lit conference room and cackle about our insidious plans to silence our opposition. There is not a single moment of consideration given towards how best to rule with an iron fist. We are here to play a funny spaceman game.
Every instance of potential censorship or overreach or oppression you point out would probably be concerning if done by an actual governing body. Contrary to popular belief, this server is not an actual governing body that wields any kind of authority. We are not recognized by the United Nations as a legitimate state. We are playing a game built on an engine that's older than a significant portion of our playerbase. The reason why we aren't concerned about headmins banning their competition is because we are far more concerned with playing a funny spaceman game to waste time trying to rig the election.
You really want something to complain about? We aren't even a democracy. We are ruled by an absolute dictator who allows us to pretend to hold elections but can at any moment seize control. We could wake up tomorrow to find that our immortal god-king decided to kill the server, ban us from the forums, and kick us out of the discord - And our sole option from there is to find a new dictator to start over with. When I said that whole "if we're gonna have a vote at all" meme I was appealing to MSO as you lot are already far gone, best I can hope for is next election we either get Keith or Sinful to come in and drain the swamp.

It's honestly a weird hill to die on, defending people telling others to kill themselves.
Try talking like that to people in real life and see how that gets received. You'd be speedrunning yourself into being labelled a shithead by nearly anyone who has already graduated highschool.

Permabanned players can't run because a prisoner who is currently in prison can't run. Its just the rules, also a permabanned player won't be able to actually go onto the game servers until their ban in successfully appealed and that might be an issue for any promotions.

I was going to say 'why would kieth, who seemed like a very level-headed and hands-off headmin, suddenly go turbo nuclear on the administration just because of this nonsense' but actually, we have had former headmins (not during their term, mind) go full nuclear breakdown before. It's not unheard of that someone kind of goes a bit loopy after a particularly nasty incident.

Re: They're gone
Kieth had a shot at draining the swamp. He found very little to drain, and he had my full backing the entire way for anything he did see.
He found nothing groundbreaking to leak beyond what everyone already knew - The admin team argues and disagrees about everything in private, there's no such thing as a short discussion and the admin team is exhausting to deal with at times due to it.
That's the honest reality of it all.
Don't call for other players to grief IC, don't do any kys call that could possibly be considered OOC, and then also that could be considered excessively dickish IC.
And as is well known, if you set up a situation where rule breaking is inevitable (like giving away free TTVs as a non antag to random crew) you can be held responsible for it.
Intentional rule breaks get punished harder than accidental or incidental ones.
Mix that with targeted harassment against a specific community member (called out by ckey) and add a dash of chan culture.
We end up with a bunch of players who intentionally fucked around because they didn't expect the admin team to decide this is a zero tolerance line.
This was infact drawn as a zero tolerance line because nobody in this community should have to deal with targeted harassment in or out of the game.
I think it's a good thing and it's not the first time we've dropped permas on people for trying it. I hope it won't be the last, too.
The message being sent with these bans is that this term has a no nonsense approach to harassment of others. Understanding that message is the first step for any of these players to get unperma'd, else they stay permamad.

I actually was not surprised at all. For better or worse he is a people pleaser, and found himself in a group of people who would be pleased if he lead a chant about suicide.NecromancerAnne wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 10:07 am I was going to say 'why would kieth, who seemed like a very level-headed and hands-off headmin, suddenly go turbo nuclear on the administration just because of this nonsense' but actually, we have had former headmins (not during their term, mind) go full nuclear breakdown before. In my experience it was extremely normal to have Kieth say extremely hostile thing on this forum where other people were doing it, then ask him about it among a different crowd of people on Discord where he would chameleon-like adopt their manner and be very cordial about the same thing.
