Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
I pondered the idea of there being a disproportionate amount of valuables in the bridge vs Security personell stationed there.
My idea: a Bridge Warden (name pending).
He would be part of security and the same level as the brig Warden but he looks out for the bridge and adjacent offices.
In exchange for that HoP (and maybe captain) would lose a bit of gamer gear round start. (Namely HoP gun since he now has security)

had this thought in the shower:
the bridge should be a sec post and we should be able to set preferences for what post we want in character prefs.......................... idk if this is already a thing it's been over a year since i played sec in any real capacity

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
Having somebody else to watch over the bridge would be nice as a HoP. I feel uneasy having to look over the bridge because anybody can sneak in at any time and usually they're very capable of kicking my ass as well. I guess you can already promote a volunteer to a job like that. But then they might betray you and then you're to blame for getting the captain's stuff stolen.

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
The bridge is already pretty secure, being in between two command offices and with each head having access to it (and a baton). It’s also very visible so breaking in is a massive risk.
This also just sounds like another HOP / captain without 30 seconds of job content and adding fluff command / security should stay as an April fools thing

Yes but give them a cool name like “first mate” or “captian’s” mate. Combonation coffee boy and defensive specialist could be funny. Give them some flavor text about how they are unwaveringly loyal to the captain.

I think people do care (as in they would stop and poke their head in or yell about it on comms), but its just not THAT much of a pressing issue because there isnt anything good in the bridge other than an axe that doesnt even fit in your bag. You only ever kick people out for purely (negative) RP reason, and ignoring terry mctider sniffing around bridge is a preferred alternative for some who dont want conflictTimonk wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 5:53 pm... both of which are not there 50% of the timeTheLoLSwat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 5:15 pm The bridge is already pretty secure, being in between two command offices and with each head having access to it (and a baton).

this is sort of an aside but it would be cool to have more ability to enforce a restricted area like the bridge so we can have conflict over people getting pissy about it.
tiding is tiding but no word of a lie dog it's so fun to sneak around and shit. i've been playing a load of assistant and walking onto the bridge or into the brig when no one really cares is such a dull, empty victory.
the other day i also played hop and someone was so absolutely incredible stunned that i would threaten to shoot them if they didn't leave the bridge and it made me realize how it's not that much of a thing any more. back in my day.............................

Its not like you cant, the rules even explicitly state that "Players who attempt to break into the captain's office, head of personnel's office, or the bridge at or near roundstart for no legitimate reason put themselves at risk for being legitimately killed by the captain, heads of staff, or security."dendydoom wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 8:35 pm this is sort of an aside but it would be cool to have more ability to enforce a restricted area like the bridge so we can have conflict over people getting pissy about it.

I think that over time, commandsec players just stopped seeking that type of conflict unless a clear reason shows like protecting someone or stopping a clear evil which sucks but you must be the change you want to see

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
As a lover of beating aggressively on random captain's doors roundstart until they agree to promote me to bridge officer: not a fan of making it or roles adjacent to it into code enforced round-roles.
There's little beyond potential personally inability to convince the Captain and/or HoP (which is a social skill issue) to stop interested assistants / security officers requesting promotion / reassignment into bridge officers (command assistant) or bridge guards, and players whom are genuinely interested in taking up that role can do so and dedicate themselves to doing it well and making it interesting.
The last time we had a cool sub-role only accessible by actively interacting with command staff to make possible (MDs requesting accesses from the HoP so they could collect bodies or assist people in danger) become a roundstart pre-assembled role we ended up with current paramedics, which while still fully capable of being used for their intended purpose and are still very fun when they are, are quite often uh. Not that.
Kidnapping random assistants to be your bridge officer / coffee slave is cool though, more people should do it, just don't make the process of getting that silver ID not require the explicit acceptance of its associated responsibilities. We do not need paramedics 2: "this time they're straight up just an assistants with a silver ID".
Not that.

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
You and everyone else who screams about the warden not being in the brig three seconds after he leaves to get food are not funny. If a warden's running around acting like sec, that's one thing, but I explicitly don't play the job anymore because I can't leave to get literally anything without some assistant guffawing about it over comms.TypicalRig wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 11:05 pmthat's great to know. now my warden spawns with a brig implant that makes them unable to leave idea will definitely get merged..Vekter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 8:21 pmI suggested a while back that yelling the words "WARDEN OUT OF BRIG" should get you automatically hit by a BSA but the coders didn't like that.TypicalRig wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 1:36 pm we can't even get warden wardens to stay in brig what makes you think this will be any different
also what you mean to say is a security officer assigned to the bridge department
Anyway this is just blueshield with extra steps, no thank you

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
I agree with this. people think the warden is out of the brig all the time because they see them once getting cigarettes for the prisoner. Or seeing them at the kitchen eating some food.Vekter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 12:40 amYou and everyone else who screams about the warden not being in the brig three seconds after he leaves to get food are not funny. Heck, wardens get bullied, shoved into walls, etcetera for going on break. poor things. This is my experience in my three or four times as warden.
I feel like I have to order freaking food delivery, but nobody really listens to the warden when it comes to orders like that

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
You only play on Manuel so maybe it's a bit different, but the majority of the situations where the warden is spotted outside the brig on Terry/Sybil that I see are just because the player wanted the benefits of armory access to go around valid hunting like a normal sec officer. I've done food fetch quests for wardens on LRP. If you can't even manage to get someone to do that on MRP, lol. Not that I'd bat an eye if a warden just explained "grabbing food" or any other decent reason. I'm petty, not context deaf.Vekter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 12:40 am You and everyone else who screams about the warden not being in the brig three seconds after he leaves to get food are not funny. Would a brig medic station trait PR also be likely to get merged?

Re: Gauging interest in Bridge Warden
My personal feeling is that it's too niche to be interesting as a role that appears once in a blue moon but simultaneously not useful enough to always exist
A bridge officer always has something to do (yell at people over the station announcements, deliver coffee, be a busybody) whereas a brig doctor who doesn't reliably exist I feel like is often going to be sitting on their hands and hoping that some police brutality happens
If you have some kind of good explanation about why "the brig occasionally has a doctor" makes sense though then anything is possible
