Why is there always a fall guy for the nerf prs? Ever since i've salted in the github comments. There's always been a maintainer eager to shake up the game in ways that the playerbase might not enjoy. Always someone to brunt all the attention for the negative PRs.

First it was orange man... Then it was action ninja.. Now its mr john fulp

Is this the way the secret coder cabal keeps the attention focused on one person?

Is this how they keep their sanity?

There's often a lot of backlash for trying to rebalance stuff, merging a PR will mean you'll likely be hated by players for a pretty long while (I still get messages about borg tipping). Because of that, I find it is easy to understand why many maintainers are scared of merging balance PRs, most of the hate they're getting are from people who play the game and are in the same community they are in.

Personally while I do wish I wasn't waking up to pings of people telling me in the absolute worst and should stop coding/merging PRs every day, because most of my experience on TG has been more around coding and game design, and I'm still in other communities, I don't think I am affected by hateful messages as much as other maintainers would be, so I take advantage of that and take the fall for PRs I'm sure other Maintainers wouldn't want to touch.

Some maintainers burn out so hard they become an impenetrable shell, and them use themselves to merge things others want, but don't want to merge.
And then you have people like me who do the same thing, but instead merge things none but I want.

It's probably because it's actually not maintainers who are pushing the changes, just maintainers giving the thumbs up or positing an idea and people making prs to conform to that idea because they agree with that stance. Maintainers have a lot more things to be doing than exclusively balance code (melberts and arm notwithstanding, and I guess ryll now as well). They're probably the ones implementing big, significant changes rather than micro changes like nerfs/buffs.

It's a human nature thing. Whoever approves it is going to be the fall guy. It's better to just not get angry about things being changed in a fucking videogame.
