Incorrect! Although the fields were just tilled by his copious amount of slaves, they are now empty since it's after dark. The slaveowner is truly just shouting it at the void.
But with what intentionality, Ekat. With what purposiveness? Does the meaning of the word matter to you whatsoever? Etymologically it came from something that just meant black! But clearly it didn't mean that there. And it definitely doesn't mean it anymore.
How do you reckon with that?

Let's use the example in this ban appeal! Did the author of the circuit bot just want to spam the word "black" everywhere? Hmm...
No!! I think he wanted to spam the "nigger word!" Why? Because it's a fucking slur, jackass!

What could have been the intention behind that I wonder. Let's make it in to a multiple-choice quiz, since short answer is not your strong suit:

A) He wanted to make people say something racist.
B) He wanted to make people say something racist.
C) He wanted to make people say something racist.
D) He wanted to express what he learned, in his Parisian youth, to mean "black," and to say this loudly as to assert his right and privilege as per Rule 11.
Before anyone defends the appealer here, they said their complete point of the whole thing was to grief and harm the server. That was their intent

Edit: At the request of the appealer I mean to say their point was to grief the server. They did not intentionally seek to harm the framework of the server through lag.

that's what i'm saying dude, the ban appealer should just drop this previous life of cringe meltdowns, plasma flooding because you didn't get your way in a round, and hanging around edgy nrp spheres. You'll actually end up enjoying ss13 if you're not surrounding yourself in unhealthy communities. saying the original bans were overblown after crawling back from merchant is just holding onto a past that does you no good
a very simple "yeah i was being a dumbass, took some time off and would appreciate another chance after all this time. Even if i feel a type of way about rule 11, ill keep my protesting to the forums lol" wouldve done him wonders

ekaterina wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:45 pm This argument is built on false premises.

First, that the word nigger was created to demean black people. This is false. It comes from the Latin word for black, through French.
Actually, Latin through French through Spanish, the word is negro
ekaterina wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:45 pm It was created as a simple matter-of-fact description, much like the English "black" is still used now.
Actually yes, in Spanish the word negro is of course completely fine to use as an adjective. However, I still don't think I'd be comfortable with you saying "The Blacks" in reference to Black people, in English. And also, that's not what you'd be saying, you'd be saying a bastardized version of it.
ekaterina wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:45 pm Second, that, if it had been created for that purpose, it would make it inherent to the word. A thing can be created for one purpose and used for another. Viagra was intended as a medication for heart conditions, yet it is used as a treatment for impotence. The meaning of words may change over time, as the point above exemplifies.
I agree, but doesn't this argue against your point? You're saying it was created neutrally. Well sure maybe, but it was then used to demean and dehumanize people and took on that meaning. Do you disagree?
ekaterina wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:45 pm Third, that it is somehow our problem when other people are unreasonably offended. I don't see spiders being removed to accommodate arachnophobia sufferers, or clowns being removed to accommodate players with a fear of clowns. Being offended by random, floating, slurs not directed at you or even a specific person is not reasonable.
Spiders and Clowns are fun. Is the word fun for you? What makes it so?

Regarding what MSO said earlier, I actually agree. It makes me just as uncomfortable when it's said whether its from a black person or a white person.

Making a case for keeping a banned slur in a video game is like the Japanese holdout in WWII fighting the wrong war. Why is this the hill to die on?

Pretty odd choice for devil's advocate takes... Right..?

Since this thread has devolved to people missing the point and making blind shoot and forget virtue signaling comments, I'm gonna take the chance to get the last word in while locking this thread.

Saying the nigger word is not racist.

Making people spam the chat with nigger is not racist.

Thinking that getting offended at words without offensive context behind it is stupid and wanting to intentionally trigger that that offense is not racist.

Somebody not having the same standards around sensitivity as you is not racist.

Somebody only giving considerations toward black people that society is willing to give to white people is not racist.

"Getting offended" is not a free for all, the offensive has to have a logical backing behind it before anybody is obligated to give a fuck.

Somebody straight up got a job offer rescinded because they once used "ladies" in an email, which is racist apparently because of the history and connotations???

History of a word and connotations behind a word do not bind the usage of the word nor how usages of the word should be interpreted.

Not caring about the history of a word when deciding on what words to use is not racist.

Not caring about the connotations behind a word when deciding on what words to use is not racist.

Not wanting the internet to become the new broadcast tv, watered down with considerations for the lowest common denominator is not racist.

Arguing that something somebody says should be interpreted with less good faith or more bad faith because of their skin color IS racist.

Dismissing somebody's opinions because of their skin color IS racist.

Making assumptions about somebody's intent because of their skin color IS racist.
