what does "not every shift" mean in this context? are you gonna get banned if the previous 2 robos spammed mechs? whos gonna check if 5 robos are doing it on a 5 shift rotation, equating to 4 shifts of no mech and 1 of mech spam for them but mech spam every time for everyone else?

People don't typically check previous rounds, because logs only reveal so much. It's more whether someone has a reputation, or whether admins notice that someone makes a habit of making mechs too often. Don't overthink it, it's handled by a vibe check, not on some arbitrary tally count.

at one point around 2020 someone discovered if you powered a phazon with a yellow slime core it would basically give you unlimited power and you could phase as much as you wanted. that week of rounds still lives on in my memory until it was fixed. you would hide in a bathroom stall, open your uplink and immediately 8 phazons would phase through the walls and reduce you to a pile of inert subatomic particulate before you could scream.

I don't really understand the point of that policy discussion because Bmon should be well aware that there is a ruleset that already handles his complaint and that is the stay in your lane Manuel ruleset. Roboticists can churn out as many combat mechs as they want. Their job is to make robots and mechs. If someone is making a bunch to go hunt antags as a roboticist, they've already broken the rules even if they've done it in only one round. Let them, like every department, keep their dangerous toys as long as its kept in their department. Valid hunting? Admin issue. The mech is just walking around the halls? Sec issue.

if antags don't want to deal with mechs there are literally endless amounts of different things they can sabotage to prevent mechs from ever coming into play.
1. Power
2. Robotics itself.
3. The research servers.
4. The orm or ore silo
5. Literally go to any protolathe on the station or the component printer in the circuits room and just take all the matts out and hide them somewhere its dogshit easy to prevent mechs or LITERALLY ANYTHING from being built that way.

this is totally intuition and anecdote but I'm guessing it was either a blob or heretic

Mechs seem to put in outsize work on Manny with blobs, and heretics' kit and armor makes them most vulnerable to shit that can strip their free deflects, leave wounds that matter (albeit irregularly still, I'd have to run the #s on heretic wound/bullet armor,) and ignore anything but the direct damage, a heretic can do (heavily mitigated by a few impact cushions.)

That's my guess anyway - "somebody who got heretic or blob" because I don't really see anyone having issues w/ how mechs change the dynamic with other antags.

I'm pretty sure mechs also suffer from things with obj damage multipliars....hulks should theoretically wreck mechs especially since they ignore armor, along with pretty much anything that can break an airlock.



Its not really a question of how powerful mechs are its a question of antags needing to adjust to deal with them and if they do they just wreck the mech...or they can just prevent them or avoid them.

Its also worth noting that you can now steal combat mechs through hacking. It used to be that there was no way to get rid of a DNA/ID lock, but that isn't true anymore.

the ripley mk2 with rcd upgrade can delete reinforced walls, its useful if you want to reshape your department or to tide..

oddy is still a good medical mech although the mech rework unintentionally hard nerfed its ability to use all of its equipment (can only have two instead of all 3)

mining mechs are good for anyone that isnt a miner since for some reason hand held mining equipment is magically limited to a special magic currency only miners get and in no way can someone use cash or materials to print their own?

Mechs with hydraulic clamps can store several crates or lockers FULL of items and transport them

Mime mech is still unobtainable for some reason?

When I first added the ability for the hydraulic clamp to open firelocks and airlocks, I intentionally made it only open unpowered doors. I don't know who changed that but it probably should have been a mid/late game upgrade.
