yeah, i think he got caught in a loop of doing things ambiguously minor enough that it was caught by different admins each time and not treated with the severity it needed to be, were they presented the big picture. i did a thorough investigation into the ticket you mentioned and found enough history to link together for his ban the day after the ban regarding this thread came up. (some of my investigation involved your posts above which is why they came to mind, it is absolutely bonkers how many people talked about him doing things with their shoes in the discord.)

in the appeal it is only one of two times he's told people to kill themselves. i am fine with both of these users being gone.

I don't believe the whole stuff about his infractions being minor, this alone should have been a ban, not sure why Vekter gave him a note over this (especially considering there must be a paper trail of this behaviour on his history).

I hadn't known of this guy's existence, when it was finally (not really ahelped) reported to me, I took action to review their interactions, establish a history, and then the headmin team made a ruling in if they should be a part of the community.

When I speak about my experiences and stances on ahelping it's more regarding minor issues or ic conflicts that can be dealt with without needing admin intervention. Ahelping does have a purpose and for particularly egregious cases I have directed people to ahelp in the discord.

Even that said, context always matters. IC interaction is king over OoC. Hence why rule 0 is that admin can forgo that rule break as that was a funny, or a real moment, or a surprise by the player or admin.

"IC issue" is useless. "It was all valid escalation, no rules are being broken, you'll have to handle it IC" is useful.

You get the idea. The prompt helps not just inform players they need to handle it ICly, but gives them guidance on which path they should take.

That prompt is important because the player ahelped due to thinking someone just broke the rules. They don't know if the other player is an antag, a shitter, or if an antag framed them, or sometimes they just don't know that non-antags can do bad deeds with enough IC reason. It nudges them down the most sensible direction to actually solve their IC issue.

i dislike the kys phrase, even though ive used it several times in moments of anger, however i do think its odd that someone can come at you full force with insults, but once you step it up to that its an instant rule-11 violation, and the person that was slinging other insults at you in usually in the clear, even if they were the one that caused you to say what you said

you're right in that you shouldn't have to put up with someone spewing insults at you in OOC or dchat or w/e. i mute people when they get too salty, cooldown ban them if they say something too far, and i punish both if someone retaliates with something just as or even more abhorrent. there's a limit here. yeah, sure, if someone is being an asshole, tell them to fuck off. you don't have to dig deep and find the most vile thing possible to say to someone who upsets you.

but i'm not sure what it solves by retaliating with even more vile things. other people around you hear this shit when you say it, how do you know what kinda mental state they're in? is it worth it over a video game? what if, god forbid, someone you say that to actually goes and hurts themselves? are you gonna take responsibility for that?

I know the feeling. The moment you realize that this game is evil and brings out the worst sometime. You can start catching yourself before those frustrated outbursts, that you probably didn't mean to. Getting Banbaited, which I have stopped a few of those folks with ooc/ic mutes and chattered to say "hey, you are good. you are being played and they trying to get you tilt. Let me handle this." Not every admin will catch those moments to calm that situation down, physically impossible to read all the text one and see the interactions in real-time.

I have had a long history of gamers that come and gone in all online communities I have been. I hope and pray in my heart, that folks I was in touch with, are doing alive and well. I can't do too much else for them other than be an ear or give a joke.
I personally don't wish for anyone to take their own life, because I always feel like I am living on my own borrowed time. I do realize that not everyone will think come to that truth. To answer your question, I have quit games entirely, as someone close to me suicided by their frustration with the world.

I think a really nice addition that would help some people is a mute button in the dchat. Instead of having to dig through the mute verb
