Life-size Dolls
So I had the chance to see some admin-spawned talking dolls, the idea is to add them to the game as something you can make in robotics.
The fabricator can make 2 items, a scanner and a doll template. You can scan any crewmember with the scanner, it saves their appearance to the buffer, then you hit the doll template and it assumes their appearance. The doll is an inanimate object, it's just a life-sized replica of the human you scanned, but you can do some nice tricks with it: for example, record a few phrases with a recorder, stuff it inside the doll and it will use its voicebox to randomly repeat whatever you recorded (just like Poly).
There are a lot of ways to use dolls, sky's the limit: pranks, decoys, traitor baits, or just a convenient placeholder for the HoP when he really needs to leave his office.

Re: Life-size Dolls
Aside from the voicebox thing you can already do this with monkeys in genetics

Re: Life-size Dolls
Yeah the main difference would be the talking thing, maybe the ability to program them with a pattern of emotes or movement, much like the spawnable test-dummy automatons

It sounds like ripe territory for shenanigans.
Also, re: programming them: Imagine programming a security mannequin to baton prisoners so you don't have to!

Re: Life-size Dolls
FYI the admin spawned dolls thing he was talking about was me spawning myself in, shrinking myself by half, changing my say_verb to "echoes from its voicebox", naming myself "Official So-and-so Plush Doll" and then just sitting still while people dragged me around, occasionally saying small things like "hello!"
It was a lot of fun, and being able to get little dolls that you can name, dress up and style their hair would be pretty cool

When I first saw what this was, my thoughts eventually went to blow-up dolls, and I had to suppress a shudder because I know somebody will inevitably do that. Didn't help that Shaps said he made himself into a doll.

Couldn't the British Androids (Or whatever the fuck they were) be repurposed for this?Shaps wrote:FYI the admin spawned dolls thing he was talking about was me spawning myself in, shrinking myself by half, changing my say_verb to "echoes from its voicebox", naming myself "Official So-and-so Plush Doll" and then just sitting still while people dragged me around, occasionally saying small things like "hello!"

You know, the ones who would wander around saying nonsense like "OI M8 I'LL HOOK THAT TRAITOR RIGHT IN THE REINFORCED GLASS, JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE" until you hit them with something at which point they'd erupt in a cacophony of m8 and cunt and other gibberish and halfheartedly try and hit you with stuff?

Re: Life-size Dolls
Oh my sweet Jesus when I read the thread title I thought of something completely different from this
Did anyone play on NoX? Remember the life sized Woody dolls that wanted to be "INSIDE OF YOU"?

Re: Life-size Dolls
An alternative that several of us went with in a similar conversation is making a base doll sprite, and then letting people modify it to add handheld crewman dolls of whoever they make.
So, for example, someone makes a Phoebe Lotsu doll variant. Guy who adds the dolls earmarks the sprites for adding in the next round, along with other crewman dolls that've been sprited by whoever. They get put up in rounds, like barsigns were.
They're fun useless items that have no effect other than fluff, kinda like carp plushies.

Re: Life-size Dolls
I think making them confirmed voodoo dolls would be too much. Eventually all static-namers (especially head players) would get one made after them and get griffed constantly by the things. Maybe make them like a 2% chance or something to be a voodoo doll. Or require people to tweeze out some hair or some blood or whatever and then combining it with the doll so it can activate to take control of them.

You would need the rare magical Voodoo Doll item first, that's my regulation.Zilenan91 wrote:I think making them confirmed voodoo dolls would be too much.
