Back mounted exoskeleton rig

Post by FantasticFwoosh » #142087

A specialist rig that is attached to the backpack slot intended to grant the user maneuverability and strength

Allows free movement even if injured (leg injuries/dismemberment? etc) can be shut down denying movement and locking the person in with ion inteference (until resisted or removed from back slot via inventory removal/addition)

Unable to use guns, most non emergency/vital consoles or manipulate small objects (penalty being complete non use of very small objects and a timer applied to picking up certain sized things) , user can still manipulate backpack slots normally for management though moving them into the hand is not advised since the slow time penalty will also apply there.

For civilian use, it has limited built in magboot functions (resists space wind but will not let you traverse open space without a adjacent solid tile), so is really intended for engineers working (perhaps could address a rebalance of engineering space suits as opposed to limited space worthy rigs to cut down and increase scarcity of space suit functionality) on the catwalks around the station for self preservation as to not be knocked off the platforms or disrupted by space debris/pests (carp, floating lings etc)

> Despite size grip restrictions, it is compatible with manipulating all tools (purpose built to pick them up reliably)

Militarily, it is a powerful piece of equipment, able to punchstun reliably though its slower swinging than doing the same by hand and cannot chokegrip with additional grip force only dealing damage, offers a small bonus to force of a object wielded and adminspawned rigs would have no penalties (guns blazing, precision grip etc)

Of course the person inside is still as vulnerable as ever without protection to all normal circumstances like flashes, stuns, gunshots, bludgeonings and syringes.

Would be researchable by late R&D with a mixture of engineering and military and military grade models accessible to nuclear operatives (not to say that their personal arsenal isn't large enough already)

Feedback would be appreciated.

That smells like skeletized Baystation-style power armour.

>Can't use guns, consoles, or small shit

It's shit.

>Late RnD

Yes because RnD obviously needs even more shit they'll never make for the crew.

so it's a mech but without the balancing downsides?

Not so much shit, as having it be more balanced than a metagame power machine (read exerpt on specialist admin rigs without restrictions)

I guess the recommendation for late R&D can be rebalanced to produce early R&D prototypes / roundstart examples in lockers

A decentralised mech as it were. Throw off all the armour and beep boop computers to have a guy in a suit who has a generally better standing physically but the rig is not designed for typical hardline combat (unless admin created or explicitly stated) a optional weapon of choice for the typical savvy revolutionist, greytide or occupationally territorial antagonist. Mech's are solid, punch a mech and you wont leave a dent, you just phase through and punch the driver in a rig. Its a tradeoff.

Ideally in my head with some tweaking, it could be a complete replacement for engineering space suits (providing the exoskeleton protects against space pressure by stabilising, and the engineers are instead provided thermal + insulated typical clothing that covers the body)
