Audio cue on local chat?

Post by Kyrah Abattoir » #160190

A little idea I thought of when watching this SS13 youtube video:

Basically, everytime you hear someone speak ingame (not on radio), it would be punctuated by a small audio cue similar to the ones that have been added to this video. It could even be pitch shifted so each player has his own unique "voice" they can be recognised with.

The pitch shift could be part of character creation, or randomly chosen through a small range at round start.

Spam wise it could have a small per player delay before playing again.

If done subtly and well enough, this could really work.
It's also kinda cute.

It'd be neat if different races had different voicefonts

I mean xenos already hiss when they speak out loud

cyborgs could make quiet clicks or boops

Imagine airhorn spam on the escape shuttle...but more subtle.

The sounds would have to be very carefully selected to be not annoying as fuck, otherwise any situation with more than a handful of people will be a loud mess

Clown cue should be a honk.
Add yelling/bigtext cues, too, and the clown's...you can imagine.

A short radio crackle to accompany a radio message would be nice.

Good idea, I could probably provide a sound for that, I made two for a walkie talkie last year, but as people mentioned, it should not be too annoying.
