Conversion Mode:Netrunner [A reverse nuke ops if you will]

Post by PlaugeWalker » #188320

Basic idea: Basically, it starts the round with a malf AI though, from their central sends in five Nanotransen Artificial Interfacing Specialists. The, NAIS have an implant allowing them to connect to the network, once interfaced with the network. A new mob is spawned as their cyber entity. From, their they race against the clock to use the codes supplied by them to shut down the AI before all hell breaks loose. The physical bodies, can be harmed to an extent though. one gets injured while hooked up to the network they get ripped out if with a major debuff. Confusion, disorientation, deafness, slowed down speed hardsuit sloggishness. Though, netrunning wise they will go up against snpcs, or npcs standard etc to fit the theme. Like, fire walls to get around anti-virus software, etc..

I've thought about a similar netrunny/shadowrunny idea. Would prefer neural laces replacing emags or something. Also HACKING THE PLANET ghetto style as an assistant and getting fried by the RD would be funny. Also hacking the AI replacing easy build a computer in a dark room law changes, except the AI would basically be the final boss of the virtual world if you tried it unprepared.

Gear based advantages + messing with equipment to refine your programs or whatever giving some forewarning someone is preparing to mind slave the AI. Also malf AIs blowing the fuck out of people by not pulling their punches like a normal AI would and melting their brain would be the best.

Not sure how it could be implemented though, sub window with a pseudo roguelike minigame in it?

Well, how I was think is we have an entity spawn in for the character jacking in, there the new character would be spawned on a sperate z-level. It can be done.

It technically is possible, and so is moving turfs. As, it was shown in the goosecode for the warhammer 40k server

I've been thinking about doing something like this (a VR layer on a different Z-level with things that correspond to station machinery) and how it would work.

The z-level is flat and open, except for a copy of each station machine and door at the same point as that machine or door is on the station. These machines, once interacted with, may in some cases spawn mobs (in effect, ICE) that can harm the hacker (destroy their avatar and potentially cause brain damage to the hacking player.)

Any interaction with these machines actually interacts with the *station* machines- overloading wires to cut them, activating maintenance panels, causing minor surges to pulse wires, making the autolathe print a jillion dragon dildos, etc etc.

You can acquire various cyberjacks (or whatever item, implanted or not, you decide to use), each of which spawns the VR you with different equipment. For example, a basic "hacker" kit would spawn your avatar with nothing more then a filled toolbelt. A more advanced version might also give you a laser gun. A dedicated counter-hacking kit might include stun weaponry and recharging lasers, but lack any tools with which to affect machinery. Et cetera, et cetera.

It'd involve a lot of coding work, though, and creating an entirely new subsystem to create the new "VR" z-level.
In game, I play the A.I Firmware, the French cyborg C.U.R.I.E, Aubrie Allen, and the lizard scum Skulks-Through-Maintenance.

I know jack shit about coding, but fuck it I may try to see if I can cobble some shit together

While this is a neat concept and i do think VR for our station would be cool the mode as you have outlined it is a conflict between probably six players and no one else can really contribute in any meaningful way
Arthur Thomson says, "Since there are no admins I would loging with another account and kill you"
Caleb Robinson laughs.
Arthur Thomson catches fire!

Working a VR matrix into the game would be kind of cool you got to admit. Jack in to terminal points around the station, use digital access points to force open doors, override permissions for computers, fuck with alarms, other cool shit. Gangs? Fuck gangs! We got cyberpunk gangs with punk haircuts and leather jackets and shit battling for control of the network with security and the AI accessing the network to set up ICE walls, alarms, and hostile programs to attack unauthorized personel and trace their locations.

I'd be really impressed if anyone ever manages to make a workable VR system
