Security Pilot
Operating under the assumption that the 'Space Pods' PR is fixed and merged, I would suggest proposing a new Security related job be added involving Space Pods.
-------
The idea is a mini-hanger will be added to every security department map, this hanger will contain one Security pod, the pod will be not be fully functional, requiring its equipment to be added on by the Pilot. Only the Pilot, Warden, Head of Security and Captain have access to the Security Hanger, but the assumption is that the Pilot will be operating the Security Pod. There will be room for a second pod to be constructed, but this will require resources from outside the department.
The pod hanger will have access to basic security related pod equipment, such as disabler and taser weaponry and low tech armour. There may be a sectioned off armoury that only the Head of Security/Captain can access that contains lethal variants of Pod equipment.
There will be only a single Pilot position on offer, the pilot will spawn with a security uniform, a security pressure suit will be in the hanger which resists low pressure environments, but not entirely. GIving the user a limited time of surviving in a low pressure environment. The pilot will only be armed with a standard security belt and a special issue Disabler for self defence.
The Security Pilot will be of equal rank to all other Security Officers, but has authority over any Security Officers within the Hanger, but the Warden still holds rank over the Pilot even in the hanger.
-------
What do you think? Is this just a crummy suggestion or is it worthy of merit?

I get it. Pods are cool and interesting. I know I'm supposed to be the Steelpoint of medbay, in some ways, but even I recognise that this should be either an engineering or cargo thing, not security. Perhaps secpods can come later, but let's take it one step at a time, alright, man?

Re: Security Pilot
Well except for the fact on every server with Space Pods there is a Security pod set up.
I mean, a good chunk of the Space Pod equipment is specifically stated to be used by Security personnel.
Besides, the antagonists usually get far better pod gear than the station ever could.

Re: Security Pilot
You do not need a new Sec job for pods, Steels. You get the unique security pod armor given to you at roundstart. However, if we ever get roundstart spawned pods, then Sec should certainly get a mini-bay with a single pod to shoot down other pods. You still do not need a job for that, though. Just let any rank and file officer take it as he needs it.

Re: Security Pilot
I would consider a small mini-pod hanger near or attached to security. It would start with the parts to construct a space pod, including one set of security pod armour, a tumbler key set, tracking beacon and a disabler rig.
It'll be sufficient for small scale work, which is what Sec should mostly be doing. The pod can be upgraded via RnD cooperation if necessary.
Also if Nuke Ops ever get their own Syndicate Pod Hanger, the Security Pod will be at a disadvantage since the Syndi pods get better armour, speed and weapons. But unlike normal Ops vs Crew, the Sec Pod might stand a better chance.

Re: Security Pilot
I don't like hyper specialisation of jobs.
The amount of time a pod pilot is needed is limited, so why not just let regular officers do it?
Actually I have always advocated merging jobs.

maybe if we had shitloads of players hyper-specialization would be nice, as well as on the huge maps.
with our current player numbers?
no.

Re: Security Pilot
Empty quoting is unnessecary.
I'll likely look to add a Security Pod Hanger, and a Syndicate Nuke Op Pod Hanger for the Stealth Ship.

No I just find it weird that people start empty quoting when I agreed with the contents of the quote before hand.

Re: Security Pilot
Pilots are probably the required security role for chasing antagonists through space which is a very common issue, because it leads to a lot of floating yakkety sax with people playing hide & seek if they have any remote access to a space suit, including thermiting walls in space.
Don't get me wrong i like the idea of a sec pod pilot but it needs a bit more groundwork because pods aren't common or really accounted for in the current code like other codebases such as goon & paradise with these roles and additional things for/versus pods such as mining asteroid rocks using pod tools or space only enemies
- If the pilot is not equipped with a space suit, they cannot leave the pod meaning that they will have to engage lethals on people they find and external threats unless the pod is equipped with disablers or has a dragnet esque teleportation device to return people safely to the station.

Re: Security Pilot
Hey guys, steelpoint here, so you know that new feature? Well I was thinking, what if we made a new security role based off of this? It would be self contained in security and would allow sec to take advantage of the new features without having to deal with people breaking into it all the time or anything. I think this would be a worthwhile contribution to the server? Thanks for reading

To be honest i don't know why we didn't hear the PR doing what he detailed first and start discussing this in coder feedback.
