bring back ragin' mages
Wizard rounds in their current form are not fun.
the wizard is encouraged to murderbone, since this is the effectively the one time this year that they will get to play wizard, and everyone despises friendly wizards.
one wizard vs 70 crewmembers is not the clusterfuck that wizard was meant to be, since the wizard is severely outnumbered.
therefore, i propose we bring back ragin' mages.
wizards are still encouraged to murderbone, since everyone hates friendly wizards, but they now can choose gimmicky ways of doing it since they will likely get another chance to play wizard in a few days.
with 5 or 10 wizards, the round becomes a true clusterfuck. this can be a good thing as to allow some players to vent their fustration and it keeps with the theme of wizards much better. (and maybe we can replace rev which we have been keeping because of its venting properties, with something better)

Re: bring back ragin' mages
I was personally very fond of the concept of Ragin' Mages and the kind of rounds that it would bring, even though I only encountered them very rarely.

Re: bring back ragin' mages
I always liked having this as a "cathartic release" button for when a round that was building up to be really good ended unexpectedly (like a server crash). That tends to fuck up the server and cause a lot of people to just leave, which kills population fast: The promise of a hectic and fast round with an extreme amount of chaos tends to keep people sticking around.
It never should have been in the official rotation, though, and I'm still not sure how it even got there.

Re: bring back ragin' mages
I'm not sure it ever was in the rotation except maybe on a very VERY low chance (I believe it is on /vg/ but their antag code and rates are entirely different things from ours.) The sad thing is that the rationale given for its complete removal was "Well, the admins will just mash the button anyway but there's no reason to just let them do it with one button." which is pretty wew.PKPenguin321 wrote:I always liked having this as a "cathartic release" button for when a round that was building up to be really good ended unexpectedly (like a server crash). Re: bring back ragin' mages
IIRC some memester snuck it into the rotation at a very low chance right around the time that it got removed. And yeah, the rationale for removing it wasn't great to begin with.

Normal wizard can be a good mode (doesn't tend to be though), but even normal ragin mages is pure meme deathmatch and cannot have any real rounds play out with it.

Still ragin mages resulted in more enjoyable rounds.Bawhoppennn wrote:Normal wizard can be a good mode (doesn't tend to be though), but even normal ragin mages is pure meme deathmatch and cannot have any real rounds play out with it.

Unless you think pure deathmatch is more enjoyable than crew cooperation rounds, it did not

Re: bring back ragin' mages
That would be stupid because it means that basically only 5 people get to actually enjoy a conflict while the rest of the players on the server get to play extendedcalzilla1 wrote:But if they kill a crew member one spell gets permanently removedAnonymousNow wrote:pubby wrote:I want wizard battle mode

Re: bring back ragin' mages
this is actually a great idea, i miss ragin mages since the vast majority of wizard rounds are one of three thingspubby wrote:I want wizard battle mode

1) friendly wizard wanting to do a gimmick (immediately killed because muh balids/"lol fuck friendly antags amirite)
2) murderboning wizard
3) incompetent wizard that gets toolbox'd by some greyshirt and then blinks themselves into space where they crit (round time: 3 minutes)
having wizards have a war on the station with the crew caught in the crossfire would actually make for some really good rounds imo.

Re: bring back ragin' mages
Ragin mages always seemed to devolve into magic deathmatch. I guess it's alright if that's what you're going for but I personally never liked that kind of thing.

They won't because if calzilla's suggestion goes in then the wizards will actively avoid getting people in the crossfireCPTANT wrote:Lolwut? Re: bring back ragin' mages
nah, just 5 or 10 wizards, with no objectives other than be a wizard.
that will give us all the chaos that wizard rounds demand.
