Department doorbells
Basically this idea consists of placing a button next to a department's main entrance that either plays a sound throughout the entire department or messages relevant staff PDAs to let people know there's a visitor. This would cut down on the AI's workload by encouraging people to open doors for others.
Also so the clown can ding-dong ditch security.

Re: Department doorbells
Give it a delay but make it emaggable to disable the delay.
Blame X for spamming doorbell, watch as department kicks their shit in for it.
Fund it.

Re: Department doorbells
Why not have them ping PDA's with an ID inside that has access to the department. Also a ghetto way of checking for access changes on an ID.

Re: Department doorbells
I coded bells a while back but used /areas which are kinda shitty, so it got rejected. The idea was to make sure you could hear the bell anywhere in the department.
If I get the motivation, I can always look into making the sound emit from department wall radios or something. PDA idea is good, though.

Re: Department doorbells
Just use the requests consoles. We really should be using those things more imo.

Re: Department doorbells
Yeah I'll dust off the code and implement it with request consoles emitting sound. I'm away for the holidays but might push something in the next couple of weeks.

Emagged: it rings the doorbell at random intervals, forever.MMMiracles wrote:Give it a delay but make it emaggable to disable the delay.
I like having this go through the request consoles, but for cases where there's nobody in the department's rooms, maybe request consoles should have an option to ring on the department channel also. (This would encourage using request consoles in general.)
Remove the AI.

Re: Department doorbells
Personally I feel that the requests consoles should also speak over the department channel in general anyways, not just for this.

It'd make them useful for cargo in particular.

Re: Department doorbells
I am glad someone likes that function! Request Consoles transmitting on department radio greatly increases the chance that someone will respond. It really is worth coding, and would not be very difficult.Spacezenegger wrote:This is perfect, just like bots responding on their departmental radio channel.MisterPerson wrote:Personally I feel that the requests consoles should also speak over the department channel in general anyways, not just for this.

Fuck no. This needs to be as annoying as possible, if a greyshirt starts spamming my department button I'd beat the shit out of him for it.
