Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
Right now, you have three options when it comes to potential lings: dump them in perma, gib/borg them, or just let them go and keep an eye on them. The first one isn't an option, because Lings have multiple ways of escaping perma (ventcrawling, space suit thingy, etc.). The second one deals with them permanently, but runs the risk of getting you banned if it turns out they're innocent (and there's no real way of testing). The third one lets them run loose and wreak havoc before you can catch them. What sec needs is a secure means of containing Changelings and other high risk prisoners. A room with reinforced walls, a closed atmos system, and blast doors on the main entrance would work well for this. No windows to flee out of, no vents to crawl through, no airlock to emag. There are a number of places you could stuff this room. Left of the room with the straightjackets would be perfect, in my opinion. It would have to be the size of a single cell, to prevent sec from dumping everyone in there. This could work very easily, and quite frankly we need a means of keeping changelings in captivity.

Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
You can put them in a perma cell and lock it down. There's a button for it on each cell. This is already a thing.

Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
Isn't there still a vent in there they can just crawl through? Plus uplink implants and emags can still get them out. They could buy a toolbox and slowly cut their way out in the quarantine room, but that would take considerably longer.danno wrote:You can put them in a perma cell and lock it down. Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
Eh that really shouldn't be required. I miss the old isolation room that was near the permabrig with no vents or anything. Just a bed and a toilet. It was good for this kind of thing, and we should bring it back.

Borging is best. Gibbing is worst. Permaing is somewhere in between on what to do with a prisoner.
Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
Borging truly is the best and people who don't enjoy being borgs are the worst.

I can confirm having tested it on Box that the xenobiology alien pen and the testing chamber double-door on lockdown can contain lings when done right.

This is really the more reasonable and logical thing to do. SS13 is a research facility. Why not lock them in a research cage?Cipher3 wrote:I can confirm having tested it on Box that the xenobiology alien pen and the testing chamber double-door on lockdown can contain lings when done right.

The problem with borging is that there is a pretty good chance of the lings regenerating and saxxing away mid surgery or monkying to escape their cuffs

Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
tbh this is just as bad as gibbing if you're innocent.
what are you going to do?
what is a ling going to do?
you'll just remain a suspect 4ever and could just as well suicide.

Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
This is what I usually do when I manage to catch a ling. I even request it when I am a ling. Its way better then being stuck in a small perma cell with no contact what so ever.Cipher3 wrote:I can confirm having tested it on Box that the xenobiology alien pen and the testing chamber double-door on lockdown can contain lings when done right.

Containments are not meant to be completely perfect

Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
So reinforce perma. Grab a hardsuit and toolbox from the armoury, get metal from somewhere and then weld the vents, build walls in front of the windows, and toss lings in there. Containment works fine (so long as they don't have friends) and if it doesn't, well, you got yourself a confirmed death row crewman.
Want a different containment room? Try the insanity ward? Nice glass airlock lets you see in, vents can again be welded, and even better it lets you keep them separate from perma.
At the end of the day the problem with suspected lings isn't that containment isn't possible to create, it's that you can never quite tell if they're a changeling until they do something or not. So from a security point of view you'd want something to test them that was slow, difficult, but ultimately 100% reliable (something like a blood test that has to be filtered through a special machine) so that changelings would never be prepared to get dunked. However, this doesn't make for the most interesting possible gameplay.

Securing Changelings is not hard, its just that there is no incentive to keep one alive.

It's true, lings are just ridiculously good at causing trouble, breaking out of stuns, handcuffs, straightjackets, etcSteelpoint wrote:Securing Changelings is not hard, its just that there is no incentive to keep one alive.

That's what the blast doors are for.

Yeah, but then you can't actually farm the slimes, retrieval is impossible and even seeing what's going on inside is tough (I don't think they have cameras).Not-Dorsidarf wrote:That's what the blast doors are for.

Re: Prisoner Quarantine Room: Suspected Ling containment
Proof of theory for my previous suggestion:
Now we can know why the caged ling sings.
Due to user error (Dannno's fault), plasma got loose outside of the test chamber, but we brought in another canister and proceeded anyways.
Roast changeling anyone? (Note the igniter inside the test chamber that makes this possible with the plasma hookup)
Yep, this works.
GREAT JOB GUYS NOW YOU'VE SET OFF THE PLASMA ON OUR SIDE.
Also the chamber still held even though we had to evacuate and the area became uninhabitable.
