New Job: Mining Foreman
Pretty simple but relevant job: a mining foreman.
Basically directs the miners so the QM can focus on cargo. Foreman answers to QM, HoP, and Captain.
Gets a different colored jumpsuit, but relatively the same. Also gets a cooler hardsuit with an automatic helmet thingy like the cooler hardsuits.
Maybe a small office in the mining outpost?
What do you guys think?
inb4 no one plays miner
inb4 useless

Re: New Job: Mining Foreman
So in a department which already has a sub-head, you want to make another sub-head who answers to a sub-head?

There is a lot of very bizarre nonsense being talked on this forum. I shall now remain silent and logoff until my points are vindicated.

There is one great outcome from this: I rised up the blood pressure of some of you shitheads and lowered your lifespan. I'm honestly tempted to do this more often just to see you screech and writhe more, but that wouldn't be cool of me. So come on haters, show me some more of your high blood pressure please.

When does the QM need to direct the miners?
"Hey can you drop us off a stack of plasma I know you have like 500 sheets down there, we'd just like some more cargo points?"

Yeah this isnt needed at all. Mining isnt a big enough operation to justify having its own boss. Cargo is fine as is.

Re: New Job: Mining Foreman
I think the biggest thing, at least from what I understand about those players who actually like mining, is that Miners mine to be independent.
As someone who does most of their work in the supply field Miners tend to be a lot more free-willed and insubordinate than your workaday Cargo techs.
Hell, they're leaving the station for a reason, a large part of it is to be free and just removed from everything. I don't know how much regular mining players would like having someone in a palette-swapped jumpsuit directing their movement.
It's honestly a really great concept and could go some way in making the supply department bigger. Double the miner and cargo-tech count, expand the asteroid into it's own little hustling bubble of activity, have a private bar/doctor on staff, but that's a lot of work just for the job.

Re: New Job: Mining Foreman
the mining foreman would have nothing to do except be targeted by lings or cultists unless they go mine themselves, in which case they aren't any different from a normal miner or extra-motivated scientist, and the position only enables shitty people who want to boss people around in a role that doesn't need bossing around and where the only real responsibility would be making sure the miners aren't dying to x y or z reason, and when it happens, organizing the rare body retrieval effort, which honestly is covered fine by miners or the QM or the HoP or scientists who aren't getting minerals fast enough and also give a damn about miners beyond shiny materials

Re: New Job: Mining Foreman
I'm pretty sure most materials are either common enough that you don't need to focus on them or rare enough that you really can't, so it's not like miners can really be directed all that much. I also don't think there's enough demand for individual material types often enough that miners would try to focus on that material anyway. And outside of mining materials, miners really don't have anything else to do.

So the QM?
The most excessive signature on /tg/station13.
Still not even at the limit after 8 fucking years.
The evil holoparasite user I can't believe its not DIO and his holoparasite I can't believe its not Skub have been defeated by the Spacedust Crusaders, but what has been taken from the station can never be returned.

The Quarter Master talks to the Miners as much as the Head of Personnel talks to the Quarter Master, from what I've seen.

Re: New Job: Mining Foreman
Depends on the type of QM. I generally get more miners than cargo techs, so I'm hands-on when it comes to the crates and more or less chatty when it comes to minerals.

Not unless the QM is upgraded into an actual head. I mean he is already having all of the disadvantages of being a subhead (some people actually believe he needs to be killed during a rev round) but he also gets none of the advantages (unable to call/recall shuttle or be truly be in control of his own department when shitsec knocks as opposed to RD, CE, CMO)

As lizard QM I am naturally opposed to the idea of making the QM a head.

Re: New Job: Mining Foreman
qm should never be a head ever, and goon once had a head miner. literally every round the miners didnt need any help so people used it for extended access and nothing else
