Wizard - The Portable Hole

Post by MimicFaux » #273361

Fun idea that came to me when I saw the new chasm floor tile people got from arcade machines.

Possible uses:

Slap on a wall for discount jaunt

slap on bare plating for a chasm trap. (This part I'm unsure on. Wizards already have no-save roll insta-kills, but maybe it balances out from the need to be placed? I don't know.)
- Alternatively, making it function like a carry-on closet could do well. And those who fall inside, can resist out of.

Smart-fridge in your pocket. Just keep loading it with stuff! smart fridge labeling system also slightly mitigates 'armoury in backpack' when they aren't an array of easily clickable icons.

Hilarious interaction with bags of holding.
- I feel the power level of this interaction could be scaled up due to the chaotic, and short nature of wizard rounds and the time and resources needed for bags of holding. Maybe Ratvar proselytizer burst? max cap? Another singularity reaction seems redundant.

I'd love to hear input and further ideas on this.

Calzilla edit, keeping me on the straight and true.

If a BOH is put in the hole and everything in side is perma destroyed
Life is too short for anything meaningful and too long for anything memeingful

I remember that one story about someone throwing a portable hole at a dragon and oneshotting it because >instant 6x10 feet cylindrical hole

Do something like that and reap high intensity salt.

Oh and the hole is destroyed too, it collapsed into its self

Could make it sort of like His Grace in that bodies can be retrieved from it. Pick it up, shake it a bit, and anyone who fell in it comes tumbling out.

The bluespace bodybag has some elements of a portable hole, maybe a subtype that looks like a chasm when opened and that traps people who walk on it inside could be fun.

I like this best as a solution, and perhaps the easiest to code. I do have a concern about permanency, as I think tiles are brand new objects once pried up.

What other uses can anyone think of? So far we have
-pitfall trap
-storage
-bag of holding bomb
-wall phasing

-reuse bodybag of holding code so you can fold it and pocket it along with contents

This sounds hillarious in light of Remie's planned "push a piano from a z-level above to gib your enemies" idea.

Imagine if that could be adapted for LMGs. Fully automatic WMDs in the form of small arms.

LMGs are too small and don't have the necessary rate of fire.
Try autocannon.
