Make it so you can lock certain attributes using a random character

I have always random appearance set but I'd like it if like in The Sims 3/4 I think you could lock certain attributes (e.g. hairstyle, colour) so they remain consistent while everything else changes. I'd like to code it myself but I wouldn't know where to start.
