The idea itself is worth exploring, although, the item would be better as a "hacked detective scanner" IMHO, which lets one copy-paste scanned prints. This would be similar to other stealthy gadgets such as radioactive microlaser.

The question is whether it would add anything significant to the experience, since at the moment one can get a 2TC Chameleon Kit, change their gear to match the victim's gear, touch contraband/crime scene to their heart content and have a chance to activate sec neurons. On top of that one could rob the victim of their PDA, turn it into an uplink with 4TC F.R.A.M.E cartridge, maybe add 1 telecrystal as a finishing touch and then leave it somewhere for the sec to find.

The detective scanner is already so unreliable and easy to counter it would suck big time if you had to second guess every print you find
