it completely defeats the purpose of mining. Scientists can pretty much get every material they want save for uranium with the crusher. The miner's now have no use except as uranium gatherer's.

because it makes miniscule gold and silver now, and you can't progress through R&D all the way with just gold and silver

you need diamond and uranium to actually finish research/get all the good shit
