padded jumpsuits

ghetto armor to go with your ghetto stunbaton and cuffs
made by taking a jumpsuit and applying two plasteel sheets to it via tablecrafting or something
gives you about half the armor of a sec officer, but does nothing against lasers or bullets, only brute and burn. it comes at the price of being obvious (if you get examined it says "his clothes look puffy as fuck" or something) and some minor slowdown

Why plasteel? I'd say maybe just regular metal, and treat it as if its the vault 101 armored jumpsuit from fallout 3. It sucked.

This would be a jumpsuit right? If so, it would be more armored than the security jumpsuit which has 10 melee protection, and would be the most armored jumpsuit in the entire game. I still don't think it would be worth it, because it having slowdown would make it completely unused because no amount of good armor values (unless DS levels) make any kind of slowdown worth it.

Fuck it, just make plasteel fashionable into ned kelly style plates.

I don't think I'd use armour that gave me a slowdown if it only helped in melee, but I can't see anything wrong with letting people that want it try it. Slowdown really hurts in a melee, it's why riot armour is rarely used too.

I don't think it would even need a custom sprite, just having it be a flat armor upgrade without the ability to wear an exosuit would be the best, otherwise it would get abused.

It's armour - I would say no, unless it was made out of plasteel/something else semi rare, and there was no reason to have.

Would be reasonable grounds for a search though.

Also why are we suggesting some gimmick jumpsuit upgrade that stops you from wearing an exosuit... instead of a gimick exosuit armour?

Being ned kelly would be great.

It'd be like confiscating a spear, pointless, because they can just make another one.

Also as far as the gimmick exosuit armor, you need to wear a jumpsuit to wear exosuits, so that would be a bit weird because you also need jumpsuits to hold your PDA, belts, and pockets.

So long as it still requires Ripley boards, a mech made of salvaged and makeshift parts would be really cool. It would likely have shit armor and power efficiency, but it'd give traitors a means to cause more havoc, and reward the patient.

well okay i guess but the idea was that it would be applicable to any jumpsuit, not just standard grey ones, and making a new sprite for every single one of them would take a while and (according to SoS' reasoning for not having fatsprites) isn't easily doable
the idea was to have a very obvious, maybe bolded red examine text
if we need to make it even more obvious, we could make it so you occasional make a shuffling noise when you walk around (A shuffling noise comes from Padded McJumpsuitWearer.)

Back when I was working on the Workshop update, I had padded jumpsuits of various types. You could use office tape and some bedsheets to get 5 brute protection, electrical tape and some metal for 10, and duct tape and plasteel for 20 and some slowdown. Honestly, except for maybe some really weak protection, this seems like it'd be a bit powerful - jumpsuits typically cover all limbs, and having almost universal protection is somewhat overpowered.

yeah well it's already pretty weak, it's like maybe half of standard sec vest (probably lower but i dont know the exact values, but yeah) and doesn't do anything to protect from lasers/bullets, plus not being able to wear exosuits (read: space suits, armor, snowflake jackets) is a pretty huge drawback
hardly overpowered, considering how little armor that is and for such a massive tradeoff
if it's really, really, reaaaaally an issue (it wont be because people just target the head anyways and jumpsuits dont cover your head, plus nobody aims for limbs in the first place) then you can just make it armor your chest

what if you could grab a hazard vest/leather jacket, some metal, wirecutters, and wires, and made it so can table craft all that into ghetto brigandine armor? The construction should probably take a minute or more to do, and it should either slow you down or make shock stuns last longer when worn.

Dragging your sprite to a rollingbed or a table should flip it over, like ghetto cover/barricades. The table should take 10 seconds to flip, and glass tables break when you do it along with some flavor text calling you a jackass.

Hardhats + 1 sheet plasteel/2 sheets metal on a table while holding a welder should table craft a ghetto helmet with no flashbang protection(or very little, like almost nothing).

Dragging a chair sprite to your sprite should make you pick up the chair and throwing it knocks people down like the lowest potency banana peel with a max range of 5 tiles.

Adding a metal rod to a wired rod should make some ghetto nunchucks with a damage of 10 brute, but they fit in your pocket and belt.

Glass shards could cut zipties on help intent.

Adding metal to your gloves could increase the chances of weakening or knocking someone out, but absolutely destroy you when you get shocked or lighting bolted.

If you can fabricate metal sheets into a computer console, chair or closet, you can make Ned Kelly style boiler plate armor.

I like pretty much everything Frag suggested. Table flipping would make shootouts more awesome, and i wanna be able to smash people with barstools. Cutting zipties would be cool, and should extend to knives and other sharp objects. Not really the subject of this thread though

Those are some fantastic ideas Frag holy shit. I feel like the chair would need to do a good amount of brute damage and take time to pick up (like 3 or 4 seconds) because it's a metal chair, heavy as fuck, and would hurt if someone throws it across a room into you. Nunchucks would be good if they don't fit in your pockets and were like 12 brute instead of 10. I FUCKING LOVE the hardhat idea, it would be even better if it gave you flash protection in the form of blinding, but still made you get stunned/converted/deaf if you got flashed by a rev or flashbanged. Making it hide your identity could also be a thing but gas masks are common enough that it would have little point. The glass shard change would have little point I feel since wirecutters already do it anyways and are pretty common to boot since you can get 6 of them out of the youtools and print out of the autolathe.

Speaking of table flipping, CM has that where if you right click on any table that's not reinforced you can clip it over and hide behind it to shoot/throw over it.

Coming back to this, Hippie actually has makeshift armor. You strap duct tape to a sheet of metal, then slap that on a hazard vest and badda bing badda boom you got makeshift armor. It slows you down a little though.
