Shit son let's go spelunking
So right now chasms are just instakill dead traps. You fall in one and you're just gone. You're out gg. Why don't we make them something more?
For 1500 points you can purchase climbing gear that will let you safely descend into the chasms and thus into another z-level called the depths. The depths are an extremely dangerous place. First of all, if you don't have your flashlight out, you ain't gonna be able to see shit unless you're wearing mesons. Second of all, mobs are much more plentiful down there especially megafauna. You're generally going to want to run away from or just avoid fights for the most part down there unless you want to get gang banged by a group of colossi. So why would you want to delve into these dark and miserable caves where you're probably going to die alone?
For one thing, you can retrieve miners who fell to their deaths from these pits. Naturally you won't be able to climb up with their corpses but you can use a fulton pack to extract their corpses from the chasm. Second of all, loot and ore. Valuable ore is MUCH more common in the depths. I'm talking huge veins of diamond, silver, and gold. Ruins, while extremely dangerous (I'm talking hardcore away missions dangerous), contain much more valuable loot. We're talking shit like high powered weapons, rare and much coveted armor, and even spell books and staves.
So, thoughts?

To all these people saying that this coding time should be used to make X thing, people volunteer their time to code this shit and I am curious how you plan to force them to work on the this you consider more important

Creating a relatively large amount of content that only a small fraction of players in any given round can access is what is wrong with this game

As a person who's played mostly chemist and shaft miner, lavaland is much, much better than the old asteroid. Mechanically, it's the same thing as the asteroid, but with more hazards and ruins, plus a few big bads here and there with loot to make your life there easier, i.e. the hardest boss in lavaland dropping a staff that lets you stop ash storms but has little use outside of that, and ash drakes that make armor that's about the same as your suit but absorbs ash storms. If we didn't want to give incentives to people to leave the station, we would just remove the asteroid entirely and give them an ore magnet or something.Reimoo wrote:Lavaland in general was a mistake

I think the point is lavaland is entirely too successful. It takes too much away from the round and can have a major negative impact.
Dont get me wrong I think in terms of its core design lavaland is great but kinda sick of the 12 miner thing.

So how do we solve this?
I know I'm just going to get shouted down with memes but I'm genuinely interested in trying to figure out a way to keep lavaland relevant but nerf its capability to completely fuck with a round.
Example : Three prisoners walk into the brig with 1911s without any warning and kill all of security before anyone can react.
