"Prepare to leave" button for those who have to go.

Post by Saul_Myers » #250829

Prepare to leave. Pressing this button will offer control over your mob to ghosts when you close the game.
Why?
Because sometimes you know you won't return for the duration of this round. Real life has its issues. With this button, there won't be braindead people littering hallways, or if you play somewhat important role, you won't have to ahelp and ask admins to throw ghost in your body.
Yes, I shamelessly stole this idea from lifeweb

Discuss please.

Could be good, I have to ahelp about this now and then.
The only problem is that some ghosts are salty and putting them back into the round will lead to bad situations.

Not the worst idea I've heard. It would save me some effort

If admins can ban abusing players from being selected to take over a body then I think this is a good idea.

If drone/pAI banned people aren't prompted it could work.
It is just somewhat more complicated than policing drones since when a drone is fucking around it is obvious, but a scenario like this might be harder to notice:
>get rekt by stealth antag
>ghost
>"Do you want to play as Redshirt, the Security Officer?"
>Yes
>"Randomly" patrol into the area where you died
>Whoa, there are bloodstains and discarded equipment here, maybe something bad happened here
>Call the detective to do a forensics scan
>Apprehend suspect, good police work always pays off

i agree these could be issues but maybe just leave a message saying the normal "all past life knowledge is now forgotten" or somesuch. this seems like a really good idea and i'd hate for it to get shot down due to issues we face with any ghost role already.

Even thinking about having to investigate things when multiple ckeys are in the same body is giving me headaches.

Don't be lazy.
Or just ban everyone who was in that body. No way it will be over 2 ckeys anyway.

no

>people can and will abuse it to attain valids from salt in their past life
>people can and will fuck up my metafriend relationships
>people can and will meme as other people that had to log

if anything make it optional, if your a head and have to log and don't want someone playing as your charcter just have them delete the body.

I feel like I'd never use it due to fears of ghost doing something I wouldn't and people thinking it was, you know, me.

Though of course, that's already a thing in this game in several different ways- borers, lings, mindslave implants, people wearing my ID or impersonating my voice on the radio...

I kind of imply to make it optional. Did you even read the original post?

Does bring up the question of how often it'd be used if it was implemented though. People around here can be very sensitive about their precious snowflake characters. A solution would be to make it add (possessed) after their name so you don't get a shit ton of people trying to defame other players by taking over their precious Mary Sues and screaming about how they love to suck cocks over the radio.

It is optional. If you do not press the button, your 'snowflake' is not threatened. You are offering up your mob to whomever wants it, to do with it as they please. If you are not okay with this, then simply do not press the button!

Even if you would never do this with your named character, you can certainly offer up alternate mobs, such as a Xeno, a blob, or other non-human entity.

Hence Patti of the reason I suggested the name change when someone possesses someone. If a perfectly reasonable HoS suddenly decides to grab all the guns out of the armory and go on a rampage because he gave the body up the admins would immediately know it wasn't the original player because his new name would be "blah blah (possessed)". Another option would be to log players taking over bodies in alogs or send a notification to the admins. I doubt it'd be that much of a headache to keep track of. I don't think you'd see a lot of instances of 20 people hitting the button round start or some shit like that.

Maybe limit it to people who actually have important roles that would actually matter if they just dropped comatose, like heads, antags, and so on.

Acting like it's unreasonable for players to be attached to their characters in a game literally defined by roleplaying is one of the dumbest things I've seen all week, maybe only matched by how out of place and immersion breaking it would be to have someone with (possessed) in their name

One character one player, if someone is in an important antagonist slot and has to go they can have an admin give someone else their status or have a ghost take over their body, but command staff can follow the infinitely easier path of just appointing someone below them to be their successor and hand off all their stuff before ghosting in dorms or walking out an airlock. There's no need for having ghosts take over bodies be automatic.
P.S. Shoot Dr. Allen on sight and dissolve his body in acid. Don't burn it.

I don't like this idea for a whole host of reasons, I'd just add a special functionality that reports to the HoP when someone goes braindead / returns so they can assign the job to someone else at discretion, make up some fitting sounding bullshit about Chronic stress induced catatonia or temporary sensual shutdown based on weather its 'ghost' or 'closed byond'
