bring jungle fever back into rotation
why was it even removed in the first place? the game mode is fun as fuck, if it needs any changes maybe make it so there's a lower chance to contract the virus or there's more cures or something. the few times i've played it are better than most cult rounds tbh.

Im down with station of the apes. Some of my favorite rp drama when played with others willing to hash out the fun over power game try hard mode.

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
it was removed shortly after i joined iirc and i dont even remember the reason why. gang got removed because too much validing, which could be said for jungle fever, but its a lot more hectic in a good way. can a knowledgeable admin chime in on why it was kebabed?

Same reason anything gets removed, because its not gud.
New monkeys might be more entertaining since they're most robust now but the main issue was that after the initial outbreak where almost everyone would get monkied, you'd have a few holdouts bolted into a room with welded vents and the AI shocking/siphoned/crushing the other 90% of the station to wipe out the monkeys. So after ~5 minutes of craziness you'd get 20 minutes of just hiding in rooms until the shuttle arrives and you go there over the mountain of monkey corpses that couldn't survive mass-siphoning.
Then it got even worse with delayed infection so it was really easy to contain an outbreak, before a monkey could pop into a dept. and he'd have 5 new monkey allies within 30 seconds. Now monkey bites one dude, maybe two, but everyone is still hostile and human so they can just swarm and beat down the monkey. You can also try to cure/quarantine the victims before they turn.
Now that monkeys can bust open doors it might be interesting but if it were to ever return as a meme mode then instant transformation, no roundstart AI/borgs, and highly accellerated shuttle process would be mandatory.

i can see the issues, but i still think that, especially with the new monkey things going on code-wise, we should try and put it back in or even spruce it up a bit so that monkeys evolve or somesuch.Oldman Robustin wrote:Same reason anything gets removed, because its not gud.

a lot of rounds end in ways similar to the way you described, with either the antags or the crew holding out in little bunkers somewhere on the station. i think the main problem with something like monkeys is that there isn't a "win" condition--if we were to add one instead of just having it be "monkeys / humans rampage until shuttle arrives," then it could be a more "viable" game mode. maybe something like "x percent of the crew infected" or even something like gang dom where there's a countdown until the station is ruled by the monkey overlords.
i just really think that its a shame a game mode with such potential is swept under the rug as a meme like shadowling and gang

It was completely shit. 19/20 times the chimps got stomped and the round turned into extrended, and even if the chimps started gaining momentum one HoS in a hardsuit is basically a round-ender.Deitus wrote:why was it even removed in the first place? the game mode is fun as fuck, if it needs any changes maybe make it so there's a lower chance to contract the virus or there's more cures or something. the few times i've played it are better than most cult rounds tbh.

that could be argued for both cults or any mode in general, they get found out and stomped then its just waiting for the shuttle or admins spawn tators or something. also, since when do bites not go through hardsuits?ShadowDimentio wrote:It was completely shit.

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
It might be better as a random event in longer rounds, something like how swarmers work. Then there isn't the issue of them not having a win condition, and getting instantly wiped out wouldn't remove the only antags.

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
Not really. The difference is that every other antag has no INSTANT tells that "hey you should kill me right now" like a monkey biting people that also doesn't have a robust arsenal of stuff to not get dunked (wizard, nukers, blob).Deitus wrote:that could be argued for both cults or any mode in general, they get found out and stomped then its just waiting for the shuttle or admins spawn tators or something. also, since when do bites not go through hardsuits?ShadowDimentio wrote:It was completely shit.

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
i see what you mean for tells, but monkeys have the benefit of being much harder to catch usually, full arsenal of regular gear, and ventcrawl, as well as being able to hit-and-run to spread at first and then having more concentrated efforts when numbers are establishedShadowDimentio wrote:Not really. its the same thing as in revs, flash everyone and then get the band together to attack the bunker, except for JF its infect everyone you can and then find survivors

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
Monkeys are easy as hell to catch. They either get to carry some gear or ventcrawl, not both. Plus in revs the conversion is instant, whereas in this you either convert in botany as you try and grab a banana and get killed on the spot, or hide in the chapel and wait out your conversion like a dick.Deitus wrote:i see what you mean for tells, but monkeys have the benefit of being much harder to catch usually, full arsenal of regular gear, and ventcrawl, as well as being able to hit-and-run to spread at first and then having more concentrated efforts when numbers are established

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
i still feel like this is still just "revs but its timed until you become a rev." these are valid points but i think with a little code tweaking for things like cures, what monkeys can do, etc it could be an even better game mode than i subjectively think it is now. but coders are still busy with guncrafting i think so it probably wont happenShadowDimentio wrote:Monkeys are easy as hell to catch. Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
Not every mode has to be designed around one of the teams wining and other losing. Make it so humans are destined to lose, and it's just the matter of how long can they hold out. Make monkeys respawn indefinitely. Make them be able to bash down walls if 3 monkeys are bashing it together. Make them be able to make spears and other improvised weaponry. Make them be able to use space and hardsuits.Oldman Robustin wrote:New monkeys might be more entertaining since they're most robust now but the main issue was that after the initial outbreak where almost everyone would get monkied, you'd have a few holdouts bolted into a room with welded vents and the AI shocking/siphoned/crushing the other 90% of the station to wipe out the monkeys. Make it an action packed but not prolonged mode. Make it highlander but good.

Then it should be done with zombies not turbo hitlers with a 1-hit kill move.Lumbermancer wrote:Not every mode has to be designed around one of the teams wining and other losing. A reminder that keeping every mode type in rotation, even broken ones, and even if only at a very rare chance, has literally no downsides.

Monkeys are more threatening than zombies. You can make jungle fever monkify on death not over time.Oldman Robustin wrote:Then it should be done with zombies not turbo hitlers with a 1-hit kill move.

Re: bring jungle fever back into rotation
The only way I can see a new Monkey/Zombie mode that works is if its like the old Counter Strike 'Zombie Survival' game modes. Essentially the goal is not to win, but to see how long you can survive as a Human as you're death is inevitable.
I think this should be a far more casual game mode that's meant to finish in roughly fifteen to twenty minutes from shift start. The Monkeys/Zombies should be very powerful, aggressive and be able to break into any part of the station given time.
In addition the AI and Cyborgs should not spawn at all in this game mode, to prevent them from stalling the round indefinitely. Perhaps also look into respawning dead people as more Monkeys/Zombies if they die so you cannot just kill all the enemies.
